What's the deal? (+kombucha)

American politics has reached a fiery crescendo of complete bullshit and utter obsolescence. The idea of giving power of representation over multiple millions of people to a handful of old white dudes is archaic and needs to end. Beyond the glaring racism and voter suppression that runs rampant in every single election, interest groups and lobbying money seems to make it impossible to beat an already seated incumbent-that old turtle zombie Mitch McConnel has been at it since before i was born. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitch_McConnell

IF I survive this so grossly mismanaged health crisis that Covid has become i intend to put all of my efforts towards figuring out some serious structural change to the way we do things. This country after all was founded amidst a revolution, taxes levied to pay for things that didn't benefit the contributors being one of the biggest causes. we are taxed for wars that mostly don't need to happen, our taxes pay for the salaries of the senators who seem to sell us out at every turn for a greater slice of pie from their lobbies and they pay to house the largest prison population in human history(the U.S. houses 25% of earths prisoners despite making up only roughly 4% of its population).

They use every crisis-even those they themselves have exacerbated-to strip us of more and more of our rights, and no I'm not suggesting we go protest (right now) and breathe all over each other because we can't get our fucking hair cut. I'm referring to the invasive nature of government surveillance that seems to get worse and worse every year, I'm talking about how reproductive rights for women are somehow back on the chopping block, I'm talking about how the vice president in an emergency press conference just had to mention making donations to your church, wtf? I'm talking about how we STILL haven't addressed the poisonous water in flint, michigan. I'm talking about how for the first time in almost 200 years a native tribe's land just lost it's reservation status. I'm talking about the elimination of clean air and water standards. I'm talking about how hard teachers have to struggle to help their students succeed without the necessary resources to do so. I'm talking about the blatant wholesale destruction of our home and the health of its citizens.

This is all seriously wack, and i hope I'm not the only one that feels this way because it makes me want to scream. The issue isn't red or blue, it isn't black and white, it's life or death and i genuinely hope that we can start to see past the so far successful attempt to divide us. If we allow ourselves to be corralled into two teams then we can't hope to win against the real threat, the guys with the guns that make the rules.

SOOOOO in sticking with the theme of my goal with this experiment, i will now give some quick instructions to start making your very own kombucha!

you will need:

  • a large glass jar

  • black or green tea bags (enough to brew for the size of jar you have)

  • Cheese cloth or a clean rag and a way to keep it firmly attached to the jar

  • pure cane sugar

  • some dank, still alive scoby or unpasteurized kombucha from the store

  • clean water

Now first you will make sure that your area, your tools, your mind, body and especially hands are clean.

after sanitizing the jar you will brew enough tea to fill it, sweeten it slightly more than you would like your kombucha to be.

Once your tea has come down to room temperature (the temp is very important) you can add the scoby or dump your still living kombucha into the tea. Cover with your cheese cloth and store somewhere away from direct sunlight for about a week. Making sure not to agitate the jar during this process as it can and will disrupt the formation of your scoby.

Congrats! you should now have a gross little scoby disk beginning to form on the top of your brew and a non carbonated 'buch almost ready for a second fermentation.

Thanks for reading guys! I'll have another explosive rant and quick recipe next week! I'll gladly battle you all in the comments ;]

thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I genuinely hope so. I can't help but think though that the struggle for decency is going to be one that humanity will be locked in for its entire existence.
