Some donkeys are not clever, but haji's bala was.
One day Haji bala had filled the donkey's bag with salt and they were very heavy. On the way, Haji bala and donkey come to a river and the donkey fell in. The water dissolved a lot of the salt so that the bags were much less heavy. But half of the salt was lost.
The next day the bags were again filled with salt and were again very heavy. So when they came to the river, the donkey did not fall it; it ran in! Again, half of the salt was lost.
Haji Bala understood that the donkey was going to run into the water every day and every day half of the salt was going to be lost.
So on the third day he filled the donkey's bags with rice. Again, when they came to the river, the donkey ran into the water-but the rice did not dissolved like the salt. Instead the rice soaked up the water. So the bags were heavier than before and the poor donkey was very tired when they reached the market.
Since then the donkey never ran into the river again. And haji bala was able to take his salt to the market without losing half of it in the river.
