Not Always Right

There are times when we feel like we are so knowledgeable upon many things, and choose to disregard others opinions as we’re holding onto what we just know.

But, what if the pieces of information we have are just fallacies (false statements), and truths are just waiting for us to unravel them?

The world we’re living in modern times is full of knowledge and information coming from different sources that can be reliable or not. Those who know how to think critically cannot be easily carried away by false info. However, individuals who easily believe things without concrete proofs can be the victims of false information. On that note, we all know that learning and applying misinformation will do no good, not just the one carrying it, but also the people around him/her.

With that, it’s very important for us to widen and open our mind with information, but always make sure that we know how to verify whether a news is true or fake.

It should always be balanced. Think of it this way…

BEING OPEN TO INFORMATION

Being open to information will give us more opportunity to learn and find truths behind our curiosity and false hopes. We are having high chances of verifying every information we know whether those are facts or bluffs. If ever that we got to absorb wrong info, gathering more facts will fight those fallacies we have, and with that, we will then prevent ourselves from applying wrong knowledge that might hurt everyone.

Thinking about this the other way around, like being close minded despite the bunch of information waiting for us to verify and embrace will prevent us from finding the truth which will let us live in illusions and false hopes.

On that note, don’t be mad when others are presenting information aside from what we know. Don’t immediately argue with them for opposing us upon such knowledge because what if they are the one whose right, not us? What if they are just trying to give facts and then here we are, being close minded despite others' explanations that actually make sense?

KNOWING HOW TO VERIFY INFORMATION

Being open to information is not enough, we should also know how to verify information to come up with the correct one. Yes, pieces of information are everywhere, but don’t be easily deceived by false knowledge trying to disguise as truth. Fake news is very rampant nowadays, so we have to be more vigilant and critical thinkers at the same time.

If someone presents information, read or listen to them, but don’t just absorb what they have said, instead find a way to verify whether what has been presented to us is true or not.

Taking these two into consideration will help us to be more knowledgeable with facts, while keeping away from deceptions. These should be done together, and not take just one of them while leaving the other one behind.

That’s what I am seeing as a problem right now, especially in this modern time.

Some are very open to information, but they don’t know how to verify those. They just keep on spreading them without any concrete evidence. With that, they are living in this world while spreading fake information that could adversely affect anyone around them, including themselves as well.

On the other hand, we also have lots of fact checkers wannabe in any social media platforms but some of them are close minded. If the pieces of information didn’t suit their schema and opinions, those are automatically labeled as fakes and those who tried to spread such info will be bashed big time. That’s the reality, and as much as we want to stop them from doing it, we can’t just do it instantly.

With that, let’s start being open-minded and a critical thinker within ourselves before imposing such changes to others. Let’s be more disciplined enough in handling information and be a role model that could be imitated by the masses that will eventually lead to a positive social change.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

We are not always right. We might be thinking the wrong way all this time. However, we should not live that way for a lifetime. We should find a way to learn facts while preventing ourselves from diving into misconceptions.

We shouldn’t allow ourselves to be blinded with illusions, but rather choose to be more exposed to truths.
