Learning never stops. Even if we already finished our education in colleges or universities and we already have our bachelor degree, still we are continuously learning in our everyday life. Even if our hair turned gray and our skin became wrinkled, we still learn as time passed by.

Knowledge doesn't only came from school. We learned through the books/articles we read, the shows or movies we watched and most especially our experiences in our daily living.

But some people are having trouble in learning new ideas. They seem to think that the knowledge and skills they have for now are fixed and they don't know how to improve themselves to the highest level. Some are trying their best to learn, but they are having a hard time to absorb the knowledge being presented to them.

So, in this article, I will share to you the 4 WAYS TO BECOME A BETTER LEARNER

But before that, I will introduce to you first about a very important term to further understand what's written in this article.

This term is what we call "learning agility." Are you familiar with this one? Some may answer "yes" , but some may respond "no."

When we say learning agility, it is the capacity for rapid, continuous learning from experience. Meaning to say, if you are an agile learner you can easily learn through making connections with your past experiences to the newly acquired knowledge in the present, you can filter out information wherein those which are no longer useful will be unlearned, and tend to be oriented toward learning goals and open to new experiences.

Aside from that, agile learners are not afraid of trying new things and always value the learning process rather than demotivating themselves by having doubt when doing something. They are willing to take risk in acquiring knowledge instead of just staying in their comfort zones. They always motivate themselves in order to boost their confidence and ability in accomplishing challenging tasks in every situation.

So in this part, we will now start discussing the 4 WAYS ON HOW TO BECOME A BETTER LEARNER.

1. Ask for Feedback

When learning, we must ask for feedbacks from other people around us to atleast determine the things we need improve to be a competent one. Seek corrections from others and never ever treat those people as your enemy in learning when in fact they can be the best teacher for you to succeed and be a better learner than before. Imagine, if you are just learning in your own and doesn't interact with other people, how can you be able to point out what's wrong in your output/ability? Most of us can't effectively evaluate our own performance. Admit it or not, that's a fact. Sometimes, we believe that our works are excellent but for some people who are more knowledgeable than us, they are not yet satisfied and look for something better than that. That's why we must be willing all the time to receive feedbacks from others to improve ourselves next time and never repeat the same mistakes again in the future.

2. Experiment with new strategies

Try to explore with different approaches and behaviors needed to finish a tasks rather than always using the old strategies. Since we are learning here, we must know how to widen our mindset and stretch our abilities to do such things and not always relying on the old ways.

Old ways does not open new doors. For us to expect a better results, try to explore and apply new techniques and see how better they are than the previous ones. If those techniques are not effective then think of another one and conduct an experiment again to determine their effectiveness for the second time.

3. Look for connections across seemingly unrelated areas.

It is somehow easier to learn and understand things if we relate the knowledge from different areas to one another. This is how transfer of learning works. If we can apply the previous knowledge to new experiences then definitely we will not be in trouble. There are lessons which we think as unrelated to what we're currently experiencing right now but those can actually help us to solve the problem. For example, you know how to ride and maneuver a bicycle so that you can also do motorcycling. The vehicles are of different kinds but the strategies used can be identical as they both required balance. In that case, you can apply what you know from your previous experience of riding a bike to maneuvering a motorcycle in the present.

4. Make time for reflection.

Reflect on what you have learned from the things you've experienced. In that way, it can increase awareness in your abilities and boost learning significantly. We shouldn't just always absorbing the lessons we gained, we must also reflect about how those lessons benefit us and how will they potentially change our approach in everything more than what we expect in our ability. Aside from that, we have to take some time to relax our brain and stop pressuring ourselves to gain ideas excessively.

Those ways are very essential in the learning process. We cannot deny the fact that learning is not as easy as 1,2,3. We must exert enough efforts and appropriate ways in order to learn effectively without hassle.

Learning the ways to be an effective learner is very essential whatever or whenever we are. Even if we are already old, we can still use all of it because just like what I've said in the introduction, "learning never stops."
