Police have arrested a man for allegedly threatening to blow up a Prime Bank branch office at Chandna Chowrasta in Gazipur.

Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and arrested a young man named Abu Bakr and defused the bomb in his bag. They claim that the bank manager is planning to loot money by taking him hostage through a bomb.

Arriving at the scene on Wednesday (September 18) afternoon, he defused a bomb (improvised electronic device) inside a black bag. The detainee was identified as Abu Bakar, son of Sikandar Ali of Morelganj in Bagerhat.

According to the police, Abu Bakar entered the Chandna Chowrasta branch of Prime Bank on the second floor of Shapla Mansion at Chandna Chowrasta in the guise of a customer. At one stage, he entered the branch manager's room and demanded money by threatening to blow up the bank with a bomb. After realizing the matter, the bank authorities informed the police.

At that moment, the bank's branch office and nearby shops were closed due to the bomb blast. Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and arrested Abu Bakr. The bomb disposal team was later informed. In the afternoon they carefully recovered the bomb from the second floor and defused it.

GMP acting commissioner. Azad Mia said it was being investigated whether militants or any other miscreants were involved in the incident. Detainee Abu Bakr is being questioned in this regard.
