Brucellosis, a bacterial disease, has hit China in the midst of the Covid weather. Experts claim that this bacterium has entered the human body through food and breathing. Thousands of people in the northwestern Chinese city of Lanzhou have been infected with the virus, the regional administration said on Tuesday.
In 2019, the virus was spread from a factory of a biopharmaceutical company. The Lanzhou Veterinary Research Center in Gansu Province, China, said in a statement that special teams have been formed to fight the brucellosis epidemic in the region. It is known that the bacterial infection of this disease occurs in the human body from cattle.
As of September 14, 2020, a total of 21,748 samples had been tested and 4,846 positive and 3,245 infected patients had been identified, according to figures released by the Lanzhou Research Center. As a result, 3,159 health-related files have been created, doctor's advice has been sought 23,479 times and medical speeches have been given after diagnosing the disease at 9 health camps.
According to the research team, gas leaks from the Lanzhou Biopharmaceutical Factory spread the germs. The factory also produces a vaccine for brucellosis. The process of making a new brucella vaccine from the expired vaccine between July 24 and August 20, 2019, was hampered by the liquid particles that came out of the tanks used for fermentation due to incomplete release of waste gas.
According to the research report, the germs leaking from the tank caused airborne particles of the infected liquid to infect the human body.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), contact with the Brucella bacterium causes a type of fever called Malta fever or Mediterranean fever. The main symptoms of this disease are headache, muscle aches, high fever and fatigue. According to the CDC, even if the symptoms are relieved, the disease can cause permanent arthritis and swelling of various organs in the body.
