When you want to do something that is very important to you, the strongest word you might think of is “strategy” on how can you solve a certain problem in its best possible solution you can formulate? or how can you make it easier for you to overcome a certain situation? or how can you defeat your enemy without sacrificing a lot?

Using a strategy in real life situations is common in order to get the feasible outcome. How about in the world of gambling? It seems like applying the word “strategy” contradicts the saying by almost all gamblers that “the house always wins”. Obviously you are going against the norm of what most people perceived, like David versus Goliath. Someone might say you are crazy but think that only few are on what they say 1% and the rest are 99% kind of people.

   We are talking about gambling so it means, if you win a lot of money then you are successful the way you play the game but people would believe it as “luck” but they did not know, you have been studying the process and found a loophole to outsmart the casino. It doesn't sound convincing but the experts in the field have been doing this kind of thing.

   Let’s say, in a card game, you would be surprised that as time goes by, gamblers developed a certain way to take advantage of a possible opportunity against the house. One of them is card counting in blackjack. If you are good at counting and with a good memory, you have a higher chance of profiting in the game. The strategy is, you are recording the value of the cards shown in the table, while predicting your chance or probability of winning in the next hand, you call it running card count. A card with a value 2-9 means it is +1 , 7-9 card values are 0 and lastly, face cards are -1 in value in counting cards, so if your running count is positive means your probability of winning is high and its opposite if negative, means the house will probably win next hand.

   The other one is called edge sorting, you are checking the card's physical look whether there are some imperfections and with your good memory you can easily adopt or predict if the dealer has a good card or not against you, then you can avoid and exploit the opportunity to win your bets. In the Phil Ivey case, some casinos give special treatment on high rollers and you can make requests, so edge sorting is more likely to have advantage to these, the reason why casinos sued Phil Ivey. But take note this kind of method is not illegal because you are not interfering when the game commences. Some casinos don’t like advantage plays so either you are kicked out or banned from entering their casino.

   When it comes to sportsbooks, researching carefully or being updated on the players that will play on that specific match on that day is very crucial not unless if the match is paid because some matches in sports or esports have controversy, this kind of thing happens. If you have research for example, a strong team will play with their regular players, then your chance of winning when you bet on them is high while if the ace player of a team cannot play because of sickness or injury, then you can say that they have a higher chance of losing their match. Also gambling today accepts live bets, so you can take advantage of it, waiting for the opportunity to bet when you can win high odds, something like that would happen such as in a game of soccer, a strong team can score two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game to make a comeback.

   Having a good strategy does not mean it always works but can help take advantage of something that may occur. Strategy also depends on how you apply it before and after. Keep it mind that you need your natural skills like good memory or some long hours of practice in order to perfect the method. Time, skills and patience might help you not just in gambling but also in real-life situations.
