Types of Forests in the World

Forests have various functions. Among other things, forests are home to millions of flora and fauna.

Of course, there are many types of forests scattered in the world. Some of them are :

1. Tropical Rain Forest

Tropical rain forests are generally located around the equator. This forest is always wet and humid because it is located in a tropical area with high rainfall.

Tropical rainforests are found on the continents of Asia, Africa, Australia, and areas of Central and South America.

This forest is very important because it is home to half the flora and fauna in the world.

Tropical rainforests are also often called the world's pharmaceutical laboratories because nearly 25 percent of medicinal ingredients come from tropical forests.

2. Moderate Climate Rain Forest

This forest is located in a temperate climate or tropical highlands.

There are not many flora and fauna that live in this forest, because only cold-resistant fauna and flora can survive in this forest.

The temperate rainforests are generally distributed in the northern part of the Earth, namely Alaska, northern Asia, North America, and Australia.

3. Taiga Forest

The characteristic of the taiga forest is that the trees have needle leaves and have a waxy substance that makes them resistant to drought.

Taiga forests are found in cold regions around the Arctic, such as in northern America, northern Europe, and northern Asia.

Because the taiga forest is at a low temperature, only a few plants can grow in this forest.

For example, mercussi pine, spruce, Larix, and redwood trees. Oh yes, redwood is the largest tree species in the world.

4. Tropical Leaves Deciduous Forest

Tropical deciduous forests are found in several countries, such as in Bolivia, Mexico, Madagascar, Indonesia, and India.

As the name suggests, the trees in this forest will shed their leaves in the dry season.

That is because the dry season is long for 4 consecutive months with relatively little rainfall in the region.

The fallen leaves actually help prevent the loss of too much water, because plant water evaporates through the leaves.

That way, the sunlight freely enters the forest floor and stimulates the grass to grow.

5. Thick and Thorny Forest

Many shrub forests are scattered in Asia and South America.

In the grove forest, there are cacti, legume, randu base trees, and flowering plants.

The characteristic of the shrub forest is that it consists mostly of small leafy plants, thorns, and low trunk.

The grove also has less rainfall each year.

Your forgot to mention mangrove forest. This is the only famous mangrove forest in the world which is located in Bangladesh called "Sunderbans " . The UNICEF recognised it as world heritage in 1997. The world famous Royal Bengal Tiger lives here. By the way I learned a lot by your articles.
