Hornbill is a bird consisting of 57 species spread across Asia and Africa. 14 of them are found in Indonesia. Among hornbills, the type of hornbill is the largest in size, both the head, beak, and horns that cover the forehead. Hornbill ivory is one of the 14 hornbill species in Indonesia and is the mascot of the province of West Kalimantan (Borneo).

Hornbills have a habit of living in pairs and how to lay their eggs is an attraction. At the beginning of the egg-laying period, male birds make holes high in the tree trunks for nesting and female birds to lay eggs.

These birds live in groups of about 2 to 10 birds per tree. Sometimes birds fly together in numbers between 20-30 birds. The sound of hornbills is very distinctive and very loud as if calling his friend behind a shady tree. The egg season is from April to July.

In the Kalimantan Dayak tribe culture, hornbills are always a part of it. The myths and stories behind hornbills vary in each area. One of the myths says hornbills are incarnations of the Commander in Chief of Birds. Panglima Burung ( Commander of the Bird ) is a figure who lives in the interior mountains of Kalimantan and has supernatural form and will only be present during the war. Generally, these birds are considered sacred and are not allowed to be hunted let alone eaten.

But now hornbills are rare birds that have been very difficult to find in the forests of Borneo, this is due to the continuous destruction of the Borneo forests, such as illegal logging and logging as oil palm plantations. The fate of the hornbills is now the same as the fate of the Dayak tribes in Borneo who increasingly marginalized on their own land.

This is very interesting and educative in nature. Birds like that are supposed to be preserved for wild life and tourism activities. Nice work!
