Every type of work requires qualified abilities. Like a doctor who must be able to diagnose a disease and prescribe it based on the symptoms experienced by the patient, so does an analyst who needs certain abilities so that work can be carried out properly.
One of the abilities that must be possessed is Analytical Thinking (analytical mindset). Namely being able to understand complex problems by solving or breaking them down into more detailed and simple parts. According to Benjamin Bloom, a psychologist says that an analytical mindset emphasizes the breakdown of matter or concepts into more specific parts and determines how these parts relate to one another then unites them into a solution or solution of a problem.
Ever heard of the story of 6 blind people and elephants?
Once upon a time, in a city, there were 6 blind people who often did discussions about anything. One time they wanted to know how an elephant looked, then they came to the elephant cage.
Each of them groped and touched a part of the body of an elephant and thought that they already knew what the elephant looked like. Satisfied with this, they went home talking about the shape of the elephant.
People who touch the elephant's trunk say "the elephant is like a giant snake".
People who touch the ears of an elephant say "the elephant is like a wide fan".
"Elephants are strong and upright like poles," said the third person who touched the elephant's feet.
"This can't be a pole, it's just a rope," said the fourth person who touched the elephant's tail.
"It's big and hard. This is a wall, not a pole, not a rope, "said the fifth man
The sixth person who touched the ivory did not want to lose, "You're all wrong, this is just a spear"
The debate ensued until one wise man who was not blind passed by and the three of them asked him who was right about the shape of the elephant. Then the wise man explains that the statements of each are not wrong, but if all the statements are combined it will form complete information about the shape of the elephant.
From this story it can be analogous to programmers who are blind, application is elephant and analysts are wise people who are not blind. A programmer's perspective is limited, they only understand what must be done in front of them. But if the task to be done is not clear (not executable) then the programmer cannot do the task properly.
This is where the role of the analyst is needed. The analyst must have a broad view and not be limited to what is in front of him. He must understand the entire application to be done and breakdown every task that must be done by the programmer with a clear description. This is needed because analysts spearhead a project in accordance with client expectations or not.
