DHAKA: A black flag procession was called towards the Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday (October 6th) to protest the recent rape and torture across the country, including in Begumganj in Noakhali.
The protesters made the announcement on Monday (October 5) evening under the banner 'Bangladesh Against Rape'.
Jahar Lal Roy, president of the Dhaka metropolitan branch of the student union, told banglanews that we have been on the streets since Monday morning. I have decided in the evening that we will gather again at 11 am on Tuesday at Projonmo Chattar in Shahbag. And from there I will march the black flag towards the Prime Minister's Office from 11:30 am to 12 noon.
Earlier in the morning, leaders and activists of Sammana organization including student union staged agitation under the banner of Bangladesh against rape.

They took out a protest procession around 4:30 pm. At the end of the procession, they organized a protest rally at Projonmo Chattar in Shahbag.

President of the student union Mehedi Hasan Nobel and general secretary Anik Roy, president of the Socialist Student Front Al Qaderi Joy, president of the Dhaka metropolitan branch of the student union Jahar Lal Roy, former general secretary of the student union Liton Nandi and others spoke at the rally.
At the time, the speakers said, the incidence of rape is increasing as there is no exemplary trial for rape. Not all events come to the fore. The government is responsible for arresting a few people in the incidents that occur. We have to get out of this. Rapists must be given exemplary punishment.
They also said that at present the student organizations of the ruling party are becoming reckless. They are showing their power and are committing heinous acts like rape.
Mass rally against rape in Shahbag, demands resignation of Home Minister
Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal's resignation has been demanded from a crowd gathered at Shahbagh intersection with the slogan 'Bangladesh against rape'.
On Monday (October 5) morning, people of different classes and professions, including student union workers, started taking position at Shahbagh corner in protest of the recent incidents of rape in different parts of the country, including the torture of a woman in Begumganj, Noakhali.
From there, they strongly protested against the statement made by the Home Minister that 'rape happens everywhere in the world'. They also demanded exemplary punishment for the rapists at the earliest.
Liton Nandi, a former general secretary of the student union, who joined the road blockade at the call of the workers' union workers, said that at present rape in the country has turned into a power disorder rather than a biological disorder. You will notice that the leaders and activists of the ruling party's student organizations and youth organizations are involved in almost every rape case that has taken place in recent times.

At that time, the remarks of the Home Minister that 'rape happens everywhere' proved that he was a complete failure. We don't want to see this failed home minister again.

Jahar Lal Roy, president of the Dhaka metropolitan branch of the student union, said that if an incident of rape went viral, it was discussed and people were arrested. But the trial went on year after year. The rapists got out of jail by showing their power. We don't want to see this scene anymore.
Joining the blockade, poet-singer Shatabdi Bhav said, "We want justice for every rape case." At the same time, I want the security of the people in this country.
"People are arrested for things that get them excited," he said. The incident in Begumganj took place 32 days ago. What has the administration done in this regard?
Meanwhile, anti-rape rallies are disrupting public transport. There has been severe traffic jam.
Earlier in the morning, the Shahbagh turn was blocked under the Shahbagh banner against oppression. They stopped the traffic and chanted anti-rape slogans.
Students of Subarnachar in Noakhali, who are studying at Dhaka University, also staged a sit-in in front of the Raju Sculpture of Student Rights Council, Dhaka University (DU) in Shahbag against the rape.
