The story of life at sunset

Rahela Khatun seems to be forgetting day by day. He is seventy-six years old. There are children, grandchildren in the family. But everyone is busy with that. The daughter-in-law lives in another house. They come occasionally to travel. But when they came to visit, they left after talking to their brothers and sisters. Son and son's wife and busy with work. No one wants to talk to Rahela Khatun much. Because he can't remember anything. Ask the same question over and over again. He did not recognize his daughter at first. The girl has suffered a lot because of this. But what will Rachel do? He doesn't remember anything. I don't remember eating rice. I don't remember to take a bath. He sat alone in his room and muttered. In secret, everyone calls her 'crazy old woman'. Many elderly people in Bangladesh like Rahela Khatun. Many people suffer from various diseases including dementia and Alzheimer's in old age. Moreover, cancer, kidney complications, osteoporosis and various other diseases occur at the end of life.

Eye disease also occurs in old age. Cataracts fall, vision is reduced. The brain weakens, often shrinks in size or dries out. Heart disease attacks the old body. Weak lungs are easily affected by deadly diseases like pneumonia. In old age, women are often neglected in the family. Older women are more neglected than older men. Because all over the world women are generally poorer and more neglected than men. Suffering from old age in women starts from the age of around fifty years. Especially after menopause, various complications appear in the body of women. Malnutrition can be seen.

Many continue to become thin. Again some become overweight. Lack of various elements including calcium often makes the bones brittle. This disease called osteoporosis is more common in women. They can be affected by breast cancer and various uterine problems. Many times women are reluctant to tell their children about the physical complications at an early stage. When the disease is caught, there is no time for treatment. Moreover, women are generally considered as a burden in many families at this time because they are economically weak. They are the victims of various kinds of neglect. He was not taken to the doctor. Performance decreases with age. The man who worked all day in the house can no longer do the housework as before. As a result, he also suffers from a kind of guilt. Think of yourself as the burden of the world. Reaching old age, it is seen that the body of a woman has become a victim of extreme malnutrition. In many families, older women are sometimes the victims of physical and sometimes mental neglect. His words are not given importance, no special attention is paid to him. Dementia can lead to behavioral changes. As a result of this behavior, other members of the family expressed their displeasure towards him. Many times his forgetfulness is ridiculed. Elderly people are neglected, especially in low-income families. Special care is not taken for them and their nutritional needs are not met. Many old men and women are seen begging on the streets of Dhaka. Maybe in their youth they were laborers. Now there is no strength like hard work. The children are not taking their responsibility and as a result they have to choose the path of begging to survive. On the other hand, the middle class and upper class seniors are victims of loneliness. In our society, in most cases, there is a significant age gap between husband and wife. That is why the husband usually dies before the wife. Elderly women become much more lonely after the death of their husbands. The children live abroad and the mother lives in the country or the mother lives in the village and the children live in the city. These mothers are extremely lonely and victims of emotional neglect. The children may send money but the mother wants to get to them. Busyness causes distance, leads to mother's pain. Again, many children are sent to the old age home by their parents. The lamp of life of the elders is extinguished due to the negligence of the child. I want to pay as much attention to the elderly as possible to make their lives beautiful. Family members need to take care of their diet and nutrition. They need regular health check-ups and proper medical care. In each neighborhood and mahalla, there is a need to have special health centers for the elderly in government initiatives or separate departments for the elderly in government hospitals. Elderly women also need proper treatment for their ailments. It is as impossible for a poor and helpless old man in the village to reach these hospitals as the new moon. In many countries of the world, the state bears the cost of medical care for the elderly. Our country also needs to have free medical care for the elderly. There should also be special entertainment arrangements for the elderly. Older women in particular have a better time if they can talk to each other in local clubs or associations. Although the elders of the village get the opportunity to socialize with the neighbors, the elderly women of the city suffer from loneliness inside the house. The old values of respecting and honoring the elders in the world need to be brought back. It is everyone's duty to make sure that their lives become colorful with laughter, joy, respect and dignity before the sun sets at the end of their lives
