Don't do that if bitten by a snake

Lack of awareness is the main cause of death in most cases of poisonous snake bites. Many lives are lost prematurely due to unscientific treatment through Ojha or Veda, delay in bringing the patient to the hospital and non-treatment in a scientific way.

What to do in this case:

* Sit in a safe place without being frightened by a snake bite. Do not move the affected limb. Tie the affected area with a long stick and cloth. Do not tie too tightly, as this may block blood flow. It should be tied in such a way that a finger can be inserted between the affected limb and the cloth with difficulty* In case of severe pain in the affected area, bleeding, drooping eyelids, inability to keep neck tight, numb limbs and shortness of breath, the patient should be taken to the hospital without any delay.

* Non-venomous snake bites usually cause slight pain, swelling or minor wounds. However, even if you have these symptoms, it is not right to take any risk, any patient should be taken to the hospital.

* Almost every government medical college and some district headquarters hospitals in Bangladesh have antivenom stock of snake venom. This is the only treatment for a patient bitten by a venomous snake. Artificial respiration may also be required if the patient has stopped breathing. Remember, these treatments can only be done in a hospital, not anywhere else.

Don't do that

* Cut off the affected area

* Tied very tightly with rope

* Trying to draw blood or poison from the affected area with the help of mouth

* Applying dung, bean sprouts, tar, herbal medicines or any kind of chemical on the affected area

* Apply antihistamine injections
