Thousands of years ago, when the legends about Arceus were still young, there was a continent called Capcia. It was rugged, with an oblong-shaped plain in its center, mountains surrounding it, and a large lake.
Favored by its geographical location, Capcia was abundant in resources. The land was rich in minerals of all kinds, some unique to the region and of great value for their properties and uses. There were also large forests that provided almost unlimited timber for its inhabitants, copious and varied foods from the land, and a great variety of pokemon species, domestic and wild.
In Capcia, humans and pokemons possessed a very strong bond. All the socio-cultural and scientific development of the region was due to the relationship between humans and pokemons, especially Vidyaphala and Vidyapushpa, the pokemons of practice and theory respectively. These were characterized by being able to develop and build objects on their own and by their enormous knowledge of natural phenomena and forces. They continuously showed humans how to solve complex situations when tools or knowledge were lacking. Appreciation for the guidance of these pokemons soon turned into adoration.
The prosperity of the continent grew more and more over the years, due to the increasingly complex knowledge that Vidyaphala and Vidyapushpa supplied to the humans. Such prosperity gave the inhabitants of Capcia the impetus to build great works: 13 city-states were erected, among which the one located in the center of the great lake stood out. The latter was a splendid acropolis full of remarkable buildings, including the royal palace and the temple to the pokemons that gave the kingdom such a high standard of living. A great canal was also built that connected the coast with the lake and crossed other city-states.
The city-states of Capcia formed a council of sages who supported the king in ruling through laws engraved on columns in the main temples of each city. However, the teachings of Vidyaphala and Vidyapushpa showed the Capcians an incredible world of possibilities. In their arrogance, the humans tried to use this knowledge as a weapon of war. Pride and lust for domination became the representative characteristics of the Capcians in the eyes of the world. They began a policy of expansion that led them to war with peaceful regions, many of which were not prepared for attack. Weapons and archaeological evidence of that warfare are still scattered around the world today.
The Capcian conquerors had discovered a source of energy that allowed them to do something unique, something that several ancient texts only associate with powerful legendary pokemons like Arceus and Xerneas: create life, artificial pokemons, all thanks to the power of the teachings of Vidyaphala and Vidyapushpa. However, this power was too great to control. It doomed them and brought about their own destruction. Thus began the era of cataclysm, which lasted for almost 500 years. How it ended is still a mystery to the world today. All that remains of that era is a small inscription that says: 'That which almost destroyed us was the only thing capable of stopping us'. Whatever it was, it had enough power to make the capital city disappear, seal Vidyaphala and Vidyapushpa in isolated places, and erase all signs or evidence of the revolutionary scientific progress achieved in that era. With all this, the secret of how to create life was lost to history. It seems that they wanted to avoid the repetition of that fateful history and the suffering of those few innocent Capcians who lost their lives in the great cataclysm.
