The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) is a one-foot-long pink fish found in deep waters off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand. It has soft bones and some muscles and has an internal organ filled with gas for swimming which helps in swimming. However, blobfish are only present on the ocean floor, and at the same time, its body is like jelly, the density of which is slightly less than the water in which it resides. Thanks to this, it floats a little above the seafloor, where it waits for the passage of small crustaceans and other edible substances to suck and eat them.
Because blobfish are found only in a few areas of the world and at a depth of 2,000 to 4,000 feet below the water's surface, they are rarely found. Most human specimens are dead, found in deep-sea fishing trawlers that use nets to catch marine animals from under the sea in an attempt to catch edible fish.
The most famous species of Blobfish was discovered by Norfans in 2003 and is preserved in the Australian Museum. Known affectionately as Mr. Bulbby, this Blobfish resembles an inflatable character balloon that has lost a good amount of its helium. This safe individual specimen is known as the "Blobfish", and this is the same person who was voted the ugly animal in the 2013 competition organized by the comedy Toriyugli Animal Projection Society.
