Today is International Women’s Day, and even in the blockchain world there are various initiatives that celebrate the fair sex.

Established in 1977 to commemorate social, economic and political achievements, this day is also useful to remember the discrimination and violence that a phallocentric society has perpetrated against women for too long.

The blockchain and crypto sector owes a great deal to our various heroines fighting in this field, which unfortunately reflects what has been said previously, yet they continue their work, which is often complicated, contributing to the various projects and proving that there must be no gender discrimination in the blockchain world as well.

Obviously, we cannot avoid praising and discovering and motivating some of the most influential or otherwise active women at various levels and roles in areas related to the blockchain and crypto, but one article would not be enough to tell them all.

One of the women worth mentioning is Caterina Ferrara, founder of the association Blockchain Ladies, a community with the aim of creating value and giving voice to all women, starting with those on the Italian scene. Blockchain Ladies organizes various meetings like the one held in Rome last November or the recent dinner conference held a few days ago in the capital, enabling networking and mutual support.

Another woman to mention is Alice Corsini, COO of Provable Things, creator of the pToken, the ERC20 version of various other currencies based on blockchains other than Ethereum, in order to solve the problem of liquidity and interoperability between blockchains.

Another exponent of the blockchain world is Elizabeth Stark, CEO and co-founder of Lightning Labs which is in charge of the second layer of Bitcoin.

In Israel, there is the co-founder of Bancor, Galia Benartzi, whose ICO (Initial Coin Offering) of over 150 million dollars was able to finance the project that brings liquidity to the smart contracts of several blockchains. Benartzi, after the attack against Bancor in July, also founded the Crypto Defenders Alliance, guaranteeing security and fighting criminals effectively by connecting the various crypto exchanges.

An important position is also that of Crystal Rose, CEO of social media Sense.chat, and promoter of shEOS, a Block Producer of the EOS blockchain, which boasts over 25 million votes.

Best wishes also to all the female readers of The Cryptonomist and the female staff of our magazine.
