Save the Children: new crypto for fundraising - The Cryptonomist
Save the Children has officially announced the launch of a new fundraising campaign in which several crypto are accepted, just in time for the BitcoinTuesday event.
For the occasion of this fundraising initiative, Save the Children has added more crypto as a payment method, including Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Zcash (ZEC), Litecoin (LTC) and the stablecoin Gemini Dollar (GUSD).
The non-profit association Save the Children was one of the first to accept crypto as a donation method as early as 2013, following the Haiyan typhoon that hit Southeast Asia. The power of crypto and blockchain is also recognised by the Senior Director of Social & Digital Innovation of Save the Children, Ettore Rossetti, who explained:
“Beyond cryptocurrency contributions, what if blockchain technology could be used to make supply chains more efficient, transactions more transparent and end world poverty through decentralized universal basic income as a form of unconditional cash vouchers? That would be a dream worth HODLing on to”.
All this has been made possible thanks to the help provided by the company The Giving Block, which has made it easier to accept donations in crypto for non-profit organisations, allowing to spread cryptocurrencies and their use as a payment method.
The same co-founder of The Giving Block, Alex Wilson, explained that this represents a great opportunity for crypto.
“Giving Tuesday inspires millions around the world to support and give to the causes that matter to them. But, despite the enhanced tax benefits that crypto donations can offer donors, the day has failed to capture the attention of crypto donors in years past.”
Some days ago, Revolut also announced a new fundraising campaign with Save the Children for World Children’s Day.
