As announced yesterday by Block.one, the company behind the development of the EOS blockchain, a challenge was launched to all developers to create a smart contract with the Solidity language that can run on the blockchain of the famous heptahedron.

In fact, the hackathon, explained in detail here, has the goal to create a smart contract on EOSIO that can save and invoke the EVM smart contract written with Solidity language in a virtual Ethereum environment. The challenge is therefore addressed to both EOS and Ethereum developers.

The contest is open to everyone and has the characteristics of a hackathon. The prize is $200,000 and will end in exactly one year, unless the contest is won and concluded before that date. Some help can be found in the free book, Mastering EOS.

For the moment the number of participants is about ten, including a girl with about forty hackathons behind her and the well-known Christoph Michael.

Such a challenge will be a huge step for the EOS blockchain as, once the smart contract has been developed, it will be possible to use the ERC20 and ERC721 tokens belonging to the Ethereum blockchain and then exploit their properties on a much more scalable and faster EOS blockchain.

This will only be the beginning of a larger-scale integration, as Ethereum is one of the most popular and well-known blockchains, as well as the most used by several companies as a reference point for different solutions. The smart contract on EOS could be the springboard to expand the competition between EOS and Ethereum, as well as other blockchains, for an increasingly scalable and interoperable system.

Many people are curious whether one of the founders of Ethereum, such as Vitalik Buterin, will decide to take part in this challenge, demonstrating not only his skills as a developer but how his blockchain can adapt to new challenges.

Only recently EOSIO has become the blockchain system chosen by the State of Liberland to manage its administration. In addition, in just over a week, Voice, a decentralized social network based on EOSio with an account identification system to avoid fakes, will begin its testing phase.
