I hope this entertain some of you folks. It's kinda fanfiction story I wrote.
Chapter I: Breakfast Cookies
Error shakes the lighter, trying another flick to ignite the flame to light his cigarette. After a few more flicks he sighs in relief, his damn lighter finally works and lights the nicotine stick. He takes a long drag of his cig relishing the smoke he breathes in. The tension in his body released the exact moment he exhaled the smoke out of his system.
He feels like shit. No doubt he looked like one too, for sure. Standing up straight on his back he leans his skull against the wall, closing his eye sockets as he relaxes.
He needs to rest, wanted to, but he can't. Why? Because of so much work that expects to be done in two days from now.
Yeah, Error is no longer the destroyer of au, instead, he has a 9 to 5 office job like a human does, in a company Nightmare build. As fucked up as it sounds, that is what happened after their ill-fated encounter 12 years ago which brought them into this situation, in this "life", the person behind this quote.
He takes another long drag of smoke. Contemplating just blowing this damn building, fed up with this bullshit. He sighs simultaneously blowing the mass of smoke.
A very welcoming thought to consider but he is not desperate enough.
After the year he spent in this reality he gradually notices a lot of changes in him. For example, his height. He is not conscious about it until the gyftmas 5 years ago when Dream and Cross pushed Ink into him. Ink didn't even pass above his chest. Besides that, he doesn't glitch so badly whenever he is touched or aggravated. No more noise or error signs appear, but he still loses his consciousness whenever he is overwhelmed. He is way composed compared to his old self. He doesn't have a stuttered static effect in his voice whenever he speaks. He could say in confidence that he matured over the time of staying in this reality. The downside is he becomes a workaholic and a chain-smoker since work is the only appealing thing for him to do. This world has nothing to offer him anymore considering he is anti-social and still holding disgust from every living creature, especially in this very world.
He takes the last drag of his smoke letting his cigarette fall onto the floor and stumps it. He takes a look at his watch to time his next break again after a few more files to finish. Sensing another all-nighter in his office drowning in his paperwork. He teleports into his office to continue the endless report he needs to attend.
….
"I refuse to join your shenanigans. Stop wasting my time.", Error said, still focused on the screen. Not even gracing Cross a glimpse.
"Come on dude it's been a while since we get together and hang out. Ink is even there."
But the tapping sound on the keyboard continues.
"..."
"You seriously need a love life asap dude." Cross exasperatedly told him.
This makes Error halt abruptly and glares at him. Cross flinch from the sudden hostility he could vibe from the workaholic monster. As if that would magically fix him Error thought and further grimace.
"I, I, I didn't mean it that way. I. Heh." He takes a deep breath uneasy of the way Error glaring at him. "Friend, how about making a new friend instead. Stupid of me to think you'll be interested in a relationship. Hehe." Cross defensively blurt out. Scratching the back of his skull from the tension.
"Are you aware how pissy the goopy bastard is? After that motherfucking Heizen Company steals another client from us?" He is shaking from the rage in his soul that is rattling his ribcage, the rage he is trying to hold from the moment he finally heard the news of their defeat from this new blooming company that is trying to compete with them. He just clenches his phalanges to control his anger before he chooses to blast Cross from the building. "Besides you are aware of my condition. Being in a relationship means commitment Cross, and how can I fucking do that if I'm still disgusted with every one of you. What more of being touched?" He can feel his composure slowly slipping away from the sudden rise of his voice. He released a faint grunt.
Cross looks hesitant every second pass by. But he just stands there trying to think of another way to convince the skeleton in front of him.
"Listen Cross I appreciate the invite. But I will tell you once again and I'm not gonna repeat myself. I can't hang out with you for one reason. That is, I am goddamn busy right now."
Cross just rolled his eye-lights like a petulant child. His resolve finally vanishes. At least he tried. "Fine. But if you change your mind you know where we are." He sighs once again then disappears.
Error groans from the sudden throb he felt from his temple. Great another surge of migraine to deal with. Grabbing his packet of cigarettes and lighter he has another smoke.
He is peeve whenever the topic of relationship is brought up. Especially when Ink is in the mix it doesn't sit well with him. The others are so fond of mentioning that rainbow bastard, it perplexes him why they are still hell-bent on making them a couple when he expresses his pure hatred about it. It irks him how they assume that after staying here for 12 years will change that. He is demented before and he never thought of something like that with anyone especially Ink? So what more if he regains some of his sanity from the resemblance of a normal life he is having.
Sure he gets lonely because he is all alone. But somehow he preferred it that way as if he have a choice when just a small fraction of touch from another living being overwhelmed him. Yeah, he accepted that this is his fate now. Living like this. A typical corporate slave, a chain-smoker, and only chocolate milk for his hydration.
He continues typing using one hand, while the other attends to his cigarette. Ignoring the world revolving around him in the background, bustling with life.
…..
It's around 6 am when he finally decides to go home and take a shower. He is satisfied with the work he accomplished from another all-nighter. Three hours and fifty-five minutes will be enough break before he comes back again for the clock in and starts his 9 to 5 routine.
He teleports in his usual 24/7 mini-mart to stock up some supplies, like a few cartons of chocolate milk, canned tuna, some chocolate bars, he also adds a packet of oatmeal just in case, of course, he will never forget his cancer-inducing vice and a new lighter.
When he rings for his stuff and orders 3 rims of cigarette and five lighters the cashier looks at him in disbelief at the sheer amount he wants to buy. As if this will endanger him and catch their human disease. After that, he dismisses taking a shortcut for a stroll on his way to his apartment complex. He likes morning walks because there are fewer people around.
The moment he enters his apartment he hears the incessant knocking from his fire escape window. He continues to thread inside the room, leaving the bag he's carrying on the table. He followed the sound coming from the living room when he reaches the window he opens it and the black feline enters landing on the floor. The cat looks at him then starts to meow at him. He chuckles at the notion of the cat at him. He returns to his kitchen table to take the can of tuna opening to feed it to the cat.
"Sorry, buddy I got hung up on my work."
The cat looks at him licking its mouth and meows at him then continues eating its meal.
"Heh, I wish I could understand you sometimes." He just smiles at the thought. If only cats could converse maybe it could lessen the loneliness he feels.
After the bath, he temporarily wears black sweat pants and plain grey long sleeves. He slumped lax to his bean bag couch. The quietness in the room slowly lulled him to sleep and he greats the comfort of sleep with open arms to release him from reality for the time being.
The sudden jolt of consciousness returns him from the waking world still in a daze, he grabs his phone inside his pocket to look at the screen for the time. 7:57 am is the time that shows on the screen. Then he flinches when he hears the knocking on his door. Sagging on his bean bag again after the knocking stops. Maybe if he ignores whoever knocks on his door it will go away. But then he heard the knocking again this time with more force. He cursed that he has to acknowledge whoever it is on the other side of his door.
He grumpily removes the deadbolt and opens the door. A frown is etched on what he considered the lips feature of his teeth. When he finally sees the creature disturbing him he can't help the glare he is sending into them. A human female standing there just staring at him nonchalantly. Unaffected with how he looks at her.
"What?" He grumbles
She just stretches out her arms to show a small paper bag.
"For you skel man. My sister baked them yesterday." Then she wiggles the bag when he is not moving to take them. "You wouldn't mind cookies for breakfast right?" She implies.
Error seems bewildered by how the girl talks to him calmly. She acts as if they've been talking to them for a while.
"Come on skel man just take the bag before my sister notices it." She is still calm even though she is trying to persuade him to take the bag. Why is she giving him a bag of cookies anyway?
"What's your deal kid?" He gravely asks her. He won't fall for it if that is some kind of prank they were pulling. The girl's arm seems tired of waiting for him to take the bag so she brings it down to her side. After a few seconds, the girl starts telling him that they moved to the vacant room next to his left a month ago. And her sister who loves to bake got an idea to give cookies to their neighboring rooms on this floor. She told him how her sister failed all her attempts of giving the cookies to him since every time she tries it appears that he wasn't home. "Well, today seems like a lucky day." Error intervened with laced sarcasm and suspicion. But the girl just ignored him which made him roll his pinpricks.
By the time the girl finishes her rambling, he is leaning on his doorway, arms crossed. Then he held his skeletal hand signing to hand him the bag so she can finally stop nagging him. It seems like this blabbering girl won't relent until she finishes what she came for.
He takes a look inside the paper bag to confirm if it's truly cookies that are inside the bag, not some shit. When he is done with his confirmation with the comment of the girl that the cookies are not poisoned he finally stands straight. Then there is a loud bang that resonates into the other side of the room. The door on his right suddenly opens showing another girl that is clearly in a panic. It seems that this is the sister she is talking about. The girl in front of him just waves at her sister with a smirk now plastering her lips.
When the sister finally locked eyes with him, he could see the blush forming into her cheeks. Which made his bone brow quirk and gave the girl a questioning look. But the girl just answers him with her palm stopped mid-air signaling him to wait. Then she walks closer to her sister. The sister finally stops gawking at him when the girl taps her sister's shoulder. The sister becomes more flustered and shakes their head but the girl answers back with a nod.
Error just watch the two goofing around. "Thanks." He told the two when he is starting to get impatient with their antics. He doesn't want to waste any more of his time with their non-sense. They look at him again when he is starting to retreat in his apartment. I
"Wait!" The girl calls him back, he stops from entering midway only to take a glance at the girl again. "My sister wants to know your number." The girl blurts out. Now her sister is clawing at her arm, trying to pull her back into their apartment. The embarrassment clearly evident in her sister's face as her face starts to resemble a tomato.
"Her or you?" He remarks, the girl answers him with a chuckle. This girl just takes the bluff in stride.
"Nah I'm good. I'm just helping my sister since she is annoying the hell out of me asking when will she meet you." The girl just continues to smirk at him. He just stares at her straight in the eye which she meets without any hesitation. It's been a while when somebody manages to look at him in the pinprick without being scared or anxious. He sighs, it seems this girl doesn't know when to give up. He held out his skeletal hand the second time that day. The girl walks to him again handing him the phone.
"Selene how dare you!" The sister finally snaps at her antics. "How did you get my phone?" The girl who was now named Selene just shrugs the sister off.
She covers the side of her mouth acting like she's whispering to him. "Her name is Iris if you're wondering." She is clearly messing up with him. Her sister shouts her name again in a feeble attempt to ceasing her exploit.
"No" he replied to her while handing her the phone carefully. She just giggles at him, without a doubt she is enjoying their interaction to further humiliate her sister. She immediately snatches the phone in his hold and starts to stare at him again with a glint of curiosity. "So what is your name?" She tilts her head waiting for his answer.
"Perses." He answers monotonously.
Then she smiles at him. He can't tell at the moment if that smile is genuine or just a farce. "Nice meeting you Perses. Have a nice day." The moment he heard her say that name his soul suddenly thumps inside his ribcage, then she gave him that confusing smile. Throwing all the grace he has at the moment he hastily retreats to his apartment. Accidentally slamming the door close in the process. Well, no more answering the door next time.
….
Oh, it seems we intrude so much.
Selene also retreats into their apartment with an angry skank in tow. When both of them are eventually inside the comfort of her home her sister finally bursts her evident anger could be seen within those perfect blue eyes. Good thing the walls are thick brick and soundproof, she starts to shout her tirades.
"What the fuck you bitch? Why did you do that? Didn't I tell you I'm the one who will give those cookies to him? What was that all about?" Iris looks like a raging bull only the smoke coming out of her nose is what's missing like in the cartoons. She really riled her up this time.
"Didn't I just do you a favor. Aren't you grateful since you finally got his number after all those days you're whining like a pathetic teenager?" She just continues her pace through the room until she reaches the living room and takes a seat on the love seat. Ignoring the death glare her younger sister gives her. Oh, she definitely hates when I talk back to her.
"No, you didn't thank you very much. Did you even notice how he hurriedly went back inside his apartment?" Iris still glowering at her. She is so used to her sister's tantrum that she no longer gives a fuck at what she tells her. She is always like this anyway whenever she doesn't get what she wanted or have her way. "You should do something about this that wasn't the first impression I want. Or else."
She finally uses that line. Of course, she is, what else does she expect since she is the bane of her existence.
Selene looks at Iris with her bitch resting face she perfectly hones over the years of misery. She won't let her win. She won't let her be manipulated with fear anymore. "What else do you want? I bake those cookies just like how you order me for your plan. I just instigate some conversation with our last neighbor so you don't have to worry your pretty self so much. I even got his number for you." How bitter every word that she manages to speak. She hates lying the most. But she has to if she wants to appease the demon in front of her which is her sister. "Use your irritable charm he'll come crawling to you in no time. Besides, he will think I am a bad guy for humiliating you earlier." Which she secretly enjoys.
Her sister becomes silent deep in her thoughts. She just wants to appear she is conniving something but in all seriousness, she is a scatterbrain. Without their mother and father on her side, she is stupid.
Then Iris glared at her again. "Just don't get in the way." After a huff, she retreats to her room.
Silence at last! She starts to relax in her seat. Who would have ever thought that a monster is occupying the apartment next to them? She remembers her sister excitedly tells her that the guy next to them is handsome, but she didn't tell her that he is a monster. Will he like the cookies?
She will pray for his unfortunate soul that he won't fall in love with her bitch sister.
