Father-Nibaran Bhattacharya, mother-Suniti Devi. . He was born on 15 August 1926 at his grandfather's house at 43, Mohim Haldar Street, Kalighat, Calcutta. Born into a low-income family. He passed the entrance examination from Beleghata Deshbandhu School in 1945 and failed. At this time his formal education came to an end as he became involved in the student movement and leftist political activities. Most of Sukant's letters to Sukant are written to Arunachal Bose. Poet Sarala Basu, the mother of Arunachal Basu, used to look after Sukanta with affection. The poet spent most of his life at his home at 34 Harmohan Ghosh Lane, Beleghata, Kolkata. That house is still intact. Nearby is the house of two of the poet's brothers, Vibhas Bhattacharya and Amiya Bhattacharya. Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya is a nephew of Sukant.

Sukanta started writing at the age of eight or nine. The school's handwritten magazine 'Sanchay' made its debut by writing a short comedy story. A few days later, he saw the first printed face of Bijan Gangopadhyay's 'Shikha' paper and wrote a biography of Vivekananda. At the age of eleven, he composed a song called 'Rakhal Chele'. It was later compiled in his book 'Hartal'. It is good to say that Sukanta acted in the title role of the play 'Dhruv' while studying in school. While in seventh grade, he edited another handwritten paper, Saptamika, with his childhood friend, writer Arunachal Basu. Arunachal was his death friend. Sukanta took a special place in Bengali literature by writing poems as a poet confident in the Marxist spirit. Sukanta is called the poet of the masses. The happiness and sorrow of the helpless and oppressed proletariat are the main themes of his poems. Like Nazrul, Sukanta was also active against the rich moneylenders and oppressive masters in the interest of realizing the rights of the neglected people. Sukant had a strong position against all forms of exploitation and deprivation. He seeks to eliminate class inequality in his poetic work. He has taken on the role of a fighter for the victory of humanity. Illness never overwhelmed him. Sukanta has always been dedicated to the welfare of the people. He called for rebellion inspired by human consciousness. He was trying to overcome all kinds of obstacles with the inspiration of his fiery creation. Poet Sukanta Bhattacharya, inspired by human consciousness, was able to radically change the conventional context of Bengali poetry. Sukanta used to edit the 'Kishore Sabha' section of the Communist Party's daily Swadhinata (1945). Sukanta took a special place in Bengali literature by writing poems as a poet trusted in the Marxist spirit. The strong protest against injustice and inequality in his poems makes the readers shrink. Sukant edited a book of poetry called Akal (1944) on behalf of the anti-fascist writers and artisans. Sukant's poetry is unique in its variety of subjects and writing skills. Sukanta has also made ordinary objects the subject of poetry. The broken railing of the house has come up in his poem. Sukant's poetry teaches to overcome all kinds of obstacles. The courage to face the sorrows of the past life is found in Sukant's poems. Sukant's poems call for people to be prepared for the dignity of the Shire developed by the power of youth. Sukant's poetry is bold and inspiring. His eloquent communist writings tell people the search for life. In his short life he has given a lot to Bengali literature. He did not get lost in the crowd of great poets of that time including Rabindranath, Nazrul, Dwijendralal Roy, Jibanananda Das. He has left his signature of his own ability in his talent, talent and mind. Sukant has overcome his age limit in his mature thinking. On the ideological side, Sukant was far ahead of his age.

Poet Sukanta, a revolutionary and uncompromising freedom fighter at the same time, was a constant worker of the Communist Party. He was diagnosed with malaria and later with incurable tuberculosis on May 13, 1946 He died at the age of 21 at the Red Ed Cure Home at 119 Loudot Street, Calcutta. Sukanta passed away in Jadavpur TB hospital before he even completed 21 years. It is very unfortunate that none of his friends ( poet or non-poet) or family member helped him in a meaningful way so that he can have at least a healthy life. His own people betrayed him.
