Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah was born on 16 October 1956 in Barisal. He passed SSC from West End High School in 1974 and HSC from Dhaka College in 1976. Then in 1980 he graduated with honors from the Bangla Department of Dhaka University and in 1983 obtained his postgraduate degree. He played a significant role in the formation of 'Sammilita Sangskritik Jote' and 'Jatiya Kabita Parishad'. Originally, they appeared as protest poets in the post-independence Bengali poetry. Besides, Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah is an extraordinary poet of Bangladesh's liberation war, patriotic mass movement and non-communal life. His notable books of poetry are: Troubled coast, want back Swarnagram, human map, Chobal etc. He also gained popularity as a lyricist. Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah passed away prematurely on 21st June 1991.
