Poet Rangalal Bandopadhyay was born in 1827 in the village of Bakulia in Burdwan district. After finishing school at Bakulia Pathshala and local missionary school, he was admitted to Mohsin College in Hooghly But due to physical illness he could not finish college. His origins were in Sanskrit and English. Although he was appointed Professor of Literature at Presidency College, Calcutta, He later joined the government service as Deputy Collector. He was a regular contributor to Ishwar Gupta's Sangbad Prabhakar. He was in charge of Sangbad Rassagar, Education Gazette, Weekly Bartabah etc. Padmini Upakhyan, Karmadevi, Shursundari, Kanchikaberi etc. are his story poems. He also wrote a number of translated books. He died in 1887.
