Rafiq Azad was born on 14 February 1941 in the village of Gunigram in Zahidganj of Ghatail police station in Tangail district. His father was Salim Uddin Khan and mother was Rabia Khan. Entered from Brahmanshasan High School in Tangail in 1959 and graduated from Netrokona College in 1962. He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in Bengali literature from Dhaka University in 1966 and 1967. During his career he was engaged in journalism, teaching and government service. He created a significant world of love, rebellion and nature-based poetry. His notable books of poetry: At the feet of the impossible, Chunia is my Arcadia, armed is beautiful, life under the hammer, my homeland in the scattered bars, in the other forest, Birishiri episode and so on. He was awarded many prizes and honors including Alaol Award and Bangla Academy Award for his outstanding contribution to literature.
