Muhammad Zafar Iqbal was born in 1952 in the city of Sylhet. His village home is in Netrokona district. He is the younger brother of Humayun Ahmed. He studied Physics at Dhaka University. After 18 long years in the United States, he returned to the country and joined the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. He writes for children and teenagers. He was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2004 for his writings on science. Among the books he wrote were I Tapu, The Address of Rain, Project Nebula, The Lonely Planetary, Nitu and his friends, Chromium Forest and Dipu Number Two are notable.
