Motaher Hussain Chowdhury was born in 1903 in Comilla. His ancestral home is in Kanchanpur village in Noakhali district. He passed MA in Bengali in 1943 from Dhaka University. During his career he was a professor of Bengali language and literature. He was known as a man of culture and elegant taste. He was associated with 'Shikha' magazine published from Dhaka. His writings are thoughtful and relaxed. The influence of Pramatha Chowdhury is noticeable in his prose. Although originally a prose writer, he also wrote several poems. His essay Sanskriti Kotha is a significant addition to the contemplative essay genre of Bengali literature. The book was published after his death. Civilization and happiness are his two translations. He Died on September 18, 1956.
