The Meghna River originates from the confluence of several mountain streams in the Kachar district of India and the Sylhet district of Bangladesh. The hill river 'Barak' of Assam is divided into two streams named Surma and Kushiyara and flows through Sylhet. It now joins the Brahmaputra near Bhairab Bazar and the Padma at Chandpur. It is referred to as' Mogan 'in Megasthenes'' Indica '. Eighteenth-century Western scholars identified it as cosin. According to Rennell's map, the ancient course of the Padma merged with the Meghna near Mehendiganj. At present, the lands of Noakhali, Chandpur and Laxmipur are facing severe erosion as the water of several other rivers, including the Ganges and Brahmaputra, is flowing through it.Assam, eastern part of Mymensingh, Sylhet, Comilla and Noakhali in the Meghna Basin of India.
