Kabir Chowdhury was born on 9 February 1923 in Brahmanbaria. His father Abdul Halim Chowdhury and mother Afia Begum. Kabir Chowdhury entered Dhaka Collegiate School in 1938 and passed Higher Secondary in 1940 from Dhaka Intermediate College. He graduated with honors in English literature from Dhaka University in 1943 and obtained his master's degree in 1944. He also studied at the University of California and the University of Minnesota in the United States. His career ended with a job and teaching. He retired as a professor at Dhaka University.He was awarded the title of National Professor. He gained a reputation as an educator and translator. He has struggled all his life to establish a modern state system that is progressive, non-sectarian. He was awarded numerous prizes and honors including Bangla Academy Award and Ekushey Padak. Kabir Chowdhury passed away on December 13, 2011.
