Jahanara Imam was born on 3 May 1923 in the village of Sundarpur in Murshidabad. His father's name was Syed Abdul Ali. He was a deputy magistrate. Jahanara Imam passed BA from Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta in 1947. Later she was the headmaster of Siddheswari Girls School in Dhaka. At this time he obtained BEd and MA degrees in Bengali from Dhaka University. And taught at Dhaka Teachers Training College. His first child Rumi joined the 1971 war of liberation. Jahanara Imam assisted Rumi and his associates in various operations. He also took part in the activities of sheltering the freedom fighters, providing food, bringing and taking weapons in vehicles and delivering them to the battlefield, exchanging information and so on. Rumi was martyred at the end of the war. Jahanara Imam became our martyred mother. His remarkable book 'Seventy-One Days' commemorating the liberation war is appreciated everywhere. This majestic woman died on June 26, 1994.
