Al Mahmud was born in 1936 in the village of Morail in Brahmanbaria district. His real name is Mir Abdus Shukur Al Mahmud. He was involved in journalism for a long time. He later joined Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and retired from the post of director. The war of liberation especially inspired him. After independence, he was appointed the editor of 'Dainik Ganakantha'. The skillful use of the word folk in his poems is as remarkable as the love of tradition.
