  • An operating system must be present in your computer for it to accept and understand your instructions. 


  • An operating system is a set of programs which starts a computer and allows the users to interact with the hardware and software present in the computer.


  • In older computers, an operating system called Disk Operating System or Dos was used. It had some limitations. You needed to remember lots of commands to work in DOS. If you forgot any command, you may have to leave your work unfinished. So it was difficult to work on computers.


  • Windows


  • Windows operating system is a user-friendly operating system. It is simple and easy to use. You do not need to remember the commands. You can communicate with the computer using simple graphical pictures and menus. So, windows operating system is said to have a Graphical User Interface (GUI).Windows is a family of GUI operating systems developed by Microsoft Corporation for personal computers. The name windows comes from the basic function of the operating system, it lets you look into your computer, just like looking through a window.

  • Windows 7 is an operating system that Microsoft has produced for use on personal computers. It is the follow-up to the Windows Vista Operating System, which was released in 2006. An operating system allows your computer to manage software and perform essential tasks.

  • Logging On to a Windows 7 Station



    1. In the User name text box, type your username


    2. In the Password text box, type your password





  • Logging Off a Windows 7 Station


    1. Start menu🡪click MORE🡪select Log Off,


  • What is Aero?


  • The AERO interface, which stands for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open, gives users a crisp new graphical user interface in Windows Seven. The Windows Flip and Flip 3D options are only available under the AERO interface.



    1. Open more than two application / program windows


    2. Press ALT Tab key combination to shuffle through the Live thumbnails of your open applications.


    3. Windows Seven allows users to go through open windows in a 3D mode. The 3D flip mode activates using the Windows key Tab.



  • Working with Files


  • Working with files is an important part of managing documents in Windows 7.



    • Selecting Single/Multiple Files

  • Working with Gadgets


  • The Windows 7 gadgets feature facilitate the user to have them on desktop for their use.


  • Adding Gadgets to the Desktop


  • Right click anywhere on the desktop » select Gadgetsoption. The Gadget Gallery appears. To add a gadget, double click or Drag the gadget


  • Moving Gadgets


  • Click on the desired gadget's handle; Drag it to the desired location.


  • Removing Gadgets


  • Removing a gadget does not remove it from the Gadget Gallery.



    1. Move mouse pointer to the desired gadget


    2. Click CLOSE. The gadget will be removed.



  • Capturing Images


  • The Snipping Tool provides four ways to capture images: Free-Form Snip, Rectangular Snip, Window Snip, or Full-screen Snip.


  • The Free-Form Snip provides a pen with which you create the borders of your snip with the precision of your mouse. This snipping option allows for abstract shapes and nonlinear images



    1. From the New Snip pull-down menu, select Free-Form Snip


    2. Click and drag the mouse along the border of your image



    3. When finished, release the mouse button, To recapture the image



      1. Click NEW SNIP


      2. Repeat steps 3-4
