The 21st century ushered in the emergence of the next step in all economic areas, including agriculture and fishery, a smarter, more efficient industry that utilizes large amount of data and new technologies to benefit the whole supply chain. As we are in the field of agricultural and biosystems engineering, it is expected of us that we would be in the forefront of being well-versed particularly in the intelligent networking of machines and processes for industry with the help of information and communication technology. Indeed, productivity has never been this fast and peer with the aid of the so-called Industry 4.0.
In spite of that, technological advancement brings about a variety of perspective in people from all walks of life. Some view technology as solution to some difficulties being experienced as humanity progresses. Others see technology as something destructive to mankind. However, man has the choice to harness and take advantage of technological advancement with the mission to empower and prosper humankind.
And in this season of uncertainty, it is easy to be discouraged when difficult circumstances come along the way. It is at this juncture that the human spirit must prevail over technology, thus says the famous scientist, Sir Albert Einstein. The very essence of life is becoming a part of genuine relationships that demonstrate generosity and compassion. And if technology can be utilized in order to bring forth harmony instead of hostility among men, then we could indeed, heal as one.
The Philippine Agriculture today is facing serious challenges to achieve sustained increasing agricultural productivity and prosperity in the midst of COVID - 19 pandemic that which brought economic turmoil in the entire country and to the whole world. That if we understand the true meaning and the very purpose of why such dilemma, the problem might become an opportunity for the Agricultural & Biosystems Engineers to reset its own course to expand by taking the lead for the farming industry to survive, reboot, grow, and resilient.
Thus, the landscape of rural communities will be transformed thereby achieving goal for a genuine agricultural modernization and industrialization in the process. Together, we encourage each member to show – up and connect wherever they are to continuously unlock the imprisoned potentials of our society in bringing our farmers and fisherfolks to becoming competitive on their farming profession. I believe we can do something bigger to level up, if we remain steadfast in transforming our mind first. The Bible said: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will”- Roman 12:2.
Let’s continue being vigilant to breakthrough such challenges ahead of our journey by which biological, physical and digital technology resource -potentials clearly manifested in the practice of our professional mandate to harness the industry.
