The novel Swaddling Clothes by Yukio Mishima, Japan experienced semicolonial situation and Modern Japan was foundly influenced by Western colonialism in manyvways. This story is about a women named Toshiko and the incedent she had witnessed which had shocked her for the rest of the story, she is deeply concerned of the illegitimate baby and her own baby. This story will catch your attention and put you in mind how unfortunate it can be to born an illegitimate child in Japan. Not only in Japan but in some part of the world that vary in different countries that still look down on illigetimate children. This story depicts the characters perspictive through the author omniscient narration of Toshiko's thoughts.

The bulk of the story translated it's original title means "newspaper" in japanese. Swaddling clothes us Toshiko's story. In fact, she is the only character that named throughout the narrative. As Toshiko witnessed the incedent which shocked her, As Toshiko rides home alone in the Taxi, she sorrowfully contemplates the details of the story. The nurse she and her husband had hired to take care of their son has given birth to an illigetimate baby in their house, revealing nothing of the her pregnancy until the moment of delivery. Toshiko is saddened by the attenuation of moral values in modern japanese society as she contemplates the nurses situation and her husband blithe treatment of the event. Toshiko is appaled at the crassness of the modern japan and fearful of what the future holds for a society minded in moral depredation and social society, Toshiko obsessed with the fate of the nurse illegitimate should grow uo in ignorance of the secret of his birth, he can never become a respectable citizen.Toshiko fears the divisoon of the japanese society and two disticnt, mutually exclussive classes. In such society, the rich and the poor will always be at the odds. Toshiko's fears inflame her thoughts and she becomes paranoid. Until such time, the imagines of the horrific future, where the grow illegitimate offsring of the nurse stabs her Toshiko's son to death. Unlike his wife Toshiko's husband a handsome, popular actor, is seemingly undismayed by the incident and freely utters about it to his friends as if were nothing more than fodder for entertainment. Toshiko’s husband’s acceptance of and participation in modern western culture is also expressed through the American style clothing he wears and the “western” style, parquet-floored house he chooses to live in. Using this titled by her wandering thoughts, Toshiko capriciously stops the cab and geta out at the park, despite the impriety for young, married woman walking alone at night. She meanders thought thinking about the nurses baby and newspaper that the doctor had disrespectfully wrapped him in. Toshiko imagines yet poverty stricken and criminal vagrant. Toshiko dangerously aproaches the sleeping figure to get a closer look the youth is awarded by Toshiko's gazd and seizes her.

In this story value of the woman society in japan. The character Toshiko shows her distate for the western style furniture in her house, and appears to be the only one who is truly disturbed by the birth of the child and newspaper swaddling the infant was given. She alone in the story prets about the childs terribly dishounarble birth. We can see how cruel society can be to someone who has unfortunate birth status such as illegitimate child and thsi affects the social cultural as well as the economical experienced who act bad treatment by people around them without doing anything wrong. It is clear from the story that someones birth strans impact s the rest of his life and society view and judgement about him. Otherwise, those atruggles which Toshiko showed her concerned about the illegitimate childs future. It was well known fact that Japan illegitimate children cannot get health insurance and can only inherit life of what their illegitimate sifling can get. If we relate to real life many people indeed, discrimination on illegitimate children without any reasons and might affect their future.

His husband wans never named, perhaps his identity potray his insensitive behavior is assoliated with his modern style attitude and also there are some characters that involve in this story that have different roles. The theme of the story represents an empty japanese marriage, characterized by a husband who is not there for his wife or child emotionally and physically. The author limited omniscient point of view that is indicated by the use of the third person pronouns and the story was only told from Toshikos perapective. The atory itself has lose relation to real life and peoples judgement about him.
