As we have a wider and more powerful scope of social media, the growth of modifying one's appearance tends to be an issue across the world as more controversies are arising especially for celebrities of a public figure.

What is Cosmetic or Plastic Surgery? Is there a difference?

Cosmetic surgery is a special field of medicine that focuses on optimizing beauty through surgical and medical techniques. Cosmetic surgery can be done on all parts of the head, neck, and body. Since treated areas perform correctly but lack esthetic appeal, cosmetic surgery is optional. On the other hand, Plastic surgery is characterized as a surgical specialty devoted to the reconstruction of facial and body defects due to birth abnormalities, trauma, burns, and illness. Plastic surgery is designed to remedy dysfunctional regions of the body and is of a reconstructive nature.

Basically, Cosmetic surgery is, from the word itself, cosmetic that enhances someone's appearance. Symmetrical and aesthetic looks depending on the client's preference are made. Whilst plastic surgery is mostly about reconstruction and bringing back a part's natural function.

Some people usually interchange these two terminologies and had the misconception that these two are similar. It is important to know that since they are different, the education required for them is also different but both need medical experience, naturally.

Complications

Some unfortunate and wrong-handed surgery often lead to a complication that causes an infection that harms one's physical health. What are these?

Hematoma

Hematoma is a pocket of blood that resembles a large, painfulĀ bruise. It commonly happens after surgery. Hematoma is a concern in almost all surgeries. Treatment often requires extra blood drain operations whether blood collection is high or quickly increasing. This can require a particular technique in the operating room and occasionally extra anesthetics.

Seroma

Seroma is a disease that occurs when serum, or sterile body fluid, is pooled below the surface of the skin, resulting in swelling and occasionally discomfort. This can occur after any operation and is the most common complication after a tummy tuck in 15 to 30 percent of patients. Since seromas may become infected, they are sometimes drained with a needle. This completely prevents them, even though there is a risk of recurrence.

Blood loss

As with any surgery, some loss of blood is expected. However, uncontrolled blood loss will lead to a decrease in blood pressure with potentially fatal outcomes. Blood loss can occur on the operating table, but also internally, after surgery.

Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a disease in which blood clots form in deep veins, usually in the leg. When these clots break down and migrate to the lungs, they are known as pulmonary embolism (PE). These complications are extremely rare, involving only 0.09% of all patients undergoing cosmetic surgery. These clots can be deadly, though. Abdominoplasty operations have a significantly higher rate of DVT and PE, affecting just under 1% of patients. The risk of clots is 5 times higher for patients who have multiple procedures than for people who have just one operation.

Complications of anesthesia

Anesthesia is the use of medications to render you sleep. It helps patients to perform surgery without having the need for an operation.

General anesthesia can often lead to complications. These include respiratory diseases, strokes, heart attacks, and death. Knowledge of anesthesia, or waking up in the midst of surgery, is very uncommon but also likely.

Popular anesthesia threats include:

  • Shimmering

  • Nauseous and vomiting

  • Awakening disturbed and disoriented

Should I enhance my appearance through surgery?

There is a lot of natural medium to create or modify our face and body to our liking such as work-out, diet, yoga, and a proper lifestyle. Yet, these are committed for a long time and do not promise an immediate result that's why most people that aspire to modify their features undergo surgeries.

Enhancement surgeries are legal, professional, and not wrong.

If it's the way for you to be confident and contended, do not limit yourself by thinking what society will say about you. Do what satisfies you as long as you'll ready for post-operation pain and do not have anyone to harm. The value never decreases nor change. If you ever felt like it, go on. It was never a taboo or a sin. We live in a modern world where we crave validation and if it is the only thing that makes you feel wanted or you've been wanting to take that path, go on.

We are too old for limiting people to do what they want. Let them enjoy and acceptance will rush through.
