Hello friends.. How are you? What are you doing now?

Do you have your dinner?

Richter scale and scientist Charles Richter //

After the devastating earthquake in Sikkim in 2011, it was announced on radio and television that the magnitude of the earthquake was 7.9 on the Richter scale!

What is this Richter scale?

The seismometer records the waves of vibrations caused by earthquakes. And the diagram made with it is called seismograph.

Everyone wants to know about the magnitude of an earthquake in order to understand its magnitude. But how is this dimension determined? Seismometers are used to record vibrations or vibrational waves caused by earthquakes. A seismograph is a diagram of the magnitude of an earthquake caused by an earthquake.

The seismic waves that are created during an earthquake are more or less the same around the world. When seismicity occurs anywhere in the world, it is measured on a seismograph. The origin, duration and duration of an earthquake are determined based on the information recorded at the seismograph station.

The Richter scale is the most widely used scale for determining the magnitude of earthquakes around the world. Earthquakes are measured mathematically using the Richter scale by analyzing data from seismographs and diagrams. The magnitude of an earthquake can be measured from 0 to 10 on the Richter scale.

The magnitude of an earthquake is measured by considering the magnitude of the earthquake recorded on the seismometer and the distance of the seismometer from the source of the earthquake. Added to that is the durability of earthquakes. The magnitude of the earthquake is measured on the Richter scale. Earthquakes of magnitude 1 and 2 on the Richter scale can occur almost any time. And it happens very naturally but people don't notice. It is very common for places like San Francisco in the United States to have 1 to 2 magnitude earthquakes almost every day. However, the magnitude of these earthquakes is so mild that it is not felt but is detected on a seismometer.

If the magnitude of the earthquake is 6 or 8 on the Richter scale, it is a fatal earthquake. Earthquakes of this magnitude are strongly felt and the amount of damage is also high.

The Richter scale is more subjective, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It is a more quantitative seismometer than other widely used measuring instruments, including the 12-point Marseille scale. The Richter scale does not determine the effects of earthquakes. However, it gives an idea of the intensity of the energy measured with the help of seismometers. The Richter scale starts with one. But it has no limit. Each unit carries an indication of 10 times the intensity of the previous number. According to mathematicians, this method is called the arrangement of numbers on a logarithmic scale. For example, a moderate type of earthquake is considered a strong earthquake. However, having a logarithmic rule on the Richter scale, an increase in the number means that the magnitude of the earthquake is 10 times. Telephone and satellite are connected, with which it is possible to calculate the initial amount in a few minutes. Vibrations of magnitude 4.5 or more can be measured with very fine instruments all over the world.

The inventor of the Richter scale was Charles F. Richter. In 1935, the United States seismologist and physicist created a scale to measure earthquakes. The scale is named after Charles F. Richter, an American physicist at the California Institute of Technology. Richter worked at the California Institute of Technology.

Charles Richter was born on April 26, 1900, in Overpack, Ohio. After graduating from Los Angeles High School, he enrolled at Stanford University, graduating in 1920. He joined the Carnegie Institution of Washington in 1926 as a research associate of Robert Milicon. In 1928, he began his PhD in theoretical physics at the California Institute of Technology. During this time he became interested in seismology. He then worked under Belo Gutenberg at the new seismological laboratory in Pasadena. In 1932, Richter and Gutenberg developed a standard scale for measuring the relative size of earthquake sources. In 1938 he returned to the California Institute of Technology, where he spent the rest of his career. He was appointed professor of seismology in 1952.

He died on this day, September 30, 1985.

The Moment Magnitude Scale (MMS) has been used to measure the intensity of earthquakes since the 1980s. The first to use this scale was the United States Geological Survey. Although MMS is used in most cases now, the Richter scale is more popular among the common people.
