Mansur Ali was born in Kazipur, Sirajganj. He passed MA and Law in Economics from Aligarh Muslim University and started law business in Pabna court.
He was the president of Pabna District Muslim League from 1946-1950.He was known as Captain Mansur Ali as he was the Captain of the Pabna District Branch of the Guard Force of the League at that time.He joined the Awami League in 1951. In 1954 he was elected a member of the East Bengal Legislative Assembly. In Ataur Rahman Khan's provincial cabinet, he served as Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister of Food and Agriculture, Minister of Commerce, Labor and Industry. Mujibnagar was the finance minister of the government during the war of liberation. In Bangabandhu's government he was the Minister of Finance, Industry, Natural Resources and Commerce. He later served as Minister of Communications (1972-1974) and Minister of Home Affairs and Communications(1974-1975).
Captain Mansur Ali was brutally killed on November 3, 1975 while in prison by some misguided army personnel.He is one of the four national leaders.
