"Gaile, what are you afraid of?"
Gaile was currently focusing on her book until she heard my question that made her brows furrowed. We're reviewing for our upcoming exams tomorrow and it's getting late now, but she's still here in our house.
"Wait, why did you asked out of the blue? I thought you're also reviewing there, Lily," as I caught her attention, she cutely rolled her eyes at me.
"Just answer it," I replied.
"You're weird, Lily. But err, okay, fine. Let me think for a sec."
She shut the book she's currently reading and pointed her finger through her left cheek as if her mind was there. I chuckled secretly.
"Besides of fear of experiencing a one-sided love, I'm also afraid of the darkness and I'm afraid to fail this exam of ours! Lily, it's tomorrow, and it's already 6 pm! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm still reviewing. If you want to fail the exam, well I don't—"
"You know what, Gaile? You're not really afraid of those things," I cut her off, still staring at her thoroughly.
"Hey!" she stood then put her both hands on her hips, looking like a mother scolding her child, "You're a better thinker than me now? Huh, Lily?"
I just shrugged, ignoring her attitude towards me. I remained serious.
"Gaile, you're not afraid of the darkness. You're just afraid of the idea that there's something scary beneath that darkness."
I now also stood and stared the outside from the windowpane of the room where we're talking. Then, I returned my gaze towards her. She's looking so lovely.
"You're not afraid of failing the exam. You're just scared of what others might say and think once they knew you failed," Gaile just simply nodded.
"But, Lily... what the heck is your point?" she's now looking so terribly confused.
"I'm telling you to please not get pressured too much just because you are our High Honor. You are great, skilled, and gifted," gone the serious face of mine, I smiled at her.
"Gaile, the problem's not in you if ever you fail or didn't have a perfect score in this stupid exam, but the problem is on society's immature minds. Just because you can't fulfill their satisfactions and expectations they were seeking, doesn't mean you didn't tried your very best. I knew you did."
I added, "If people or even the whole world cannot accept who you are, and your capabilities, then those people aren't the one who are truly there for you. They're just purely useless and envious to what you currently have."
In just a span of seconds, a tear dropped in Gaile's eye, until continuous tears suddenly streaming down her cheeks. I knew it, she's currently having a hard time.
"Lily..." she looked at me after realizing all the things that I want her to know, "Thank you, so much. Don't worry..."
She started wiping her tears as she also continued to utter, "Don't worry, my Lily. Someday, everyone will get to know you not only as a classmate nor friend of mine, but my girlfriend. And I won't let them judge us nor hate the relationship we have."
I proudly smiled at her then suddenly hugged her.
"I love you so damn much, Gaile," I muttered whole-heartly.
"I love you too, Lily. Always."
Yes. Gaile's my girlfriend, I am Gaile's girlfriend. But she's lacking confidence to shout the whole world how much she loves me. She got no courage to tell everyone about our relationship, so I respected each and every decision she wanted. I love her, she loves me, and I'm already contended of knowing that.
