Depending on the time of cultivation, paddy in Bangladesh is divided into three parts. These three main divisions are Aus, Aman and Boro.

*Aush Paddy:

This paddy has been named Aush for its fast (immediate) crop production. This rice is usually grown in the month of Ashar. For this reason it is also known as Asadhi Dhan. However, this paddy can be cultivated at any time of the year. The different varieties of aus paddy made in Bangladesh are- Hasikalmi, Suryamukh, Shani, Saita, Atlai, Cuttackara, Kumari, Charanak, Dular, Dhalashait, Dhalail, Patuakhali, Panbira, Kalamanik, Kala Bakri, Bhaira, Bhaturi etc.

*Aman paddy:

Aman is the paddy of autumn season. There are three types of aman paddy. Namely: -

*Ropa Aman:

It is called Ropa Aman because it is produced by preparing seedlings and planting those seedlings. Seedlings are sown in the seedbed in the month of Jaistha-Ashar. It is planted in the main land in the month of Sravan-bhadra and harvested in the month of Agrahayan-Poush

*Woven Aman:

This Aman is sprinkled and woven. Bona Aman Seeds are sown in the field in the month of Chaitra-Baishakh and ripe paddy is harvested in the month of Agrahayan. It is also called Ashara Aman.

*Bawa Aman:

This aman is produced in the bill area. For this reason it is also called aman of deep water bill.

Different species of aman paddy are cultivated in Bangladesh and each species of rice has a local name. Such as- Shrimp Khushi, Chitbaj, Indrashail, Katibagdar, Khiraijali, Nazirshail, Banshful, Dhepi, Badshabhog, Bhasa Manik, Baish Bis, Dudhlaki, Dhala Aman, Jhingashail, Rajashail, Rupshail, Latshail, Hatishal, Gad.

*Boro paddy:

Boro paddy is mainly dependent on irrigation. Seed sowing starts from the month of Kartik. Paddy is harvested till Baishakh-Jaistha. Since the introduction of high yielding boro paddy, the whole system of paddy cultivation and agriculture has undergone major changes. This rice is also called spring paddy as it grows in spring. The names of this variety of paddy are Aman Boro, Kaiyaboro, Tupa, Pashushire, Banajira, Keroboro etc.

*Processing of paddy:

After harvesting, it is usually dried in the sun. The moisture of the seeds is reduced by drying in the sun so that no fungus can attack after storing it. It is then peeled off with the help of a drum or instrument. This method is called husking in English.

*Nutritional value of rice:

Rice has different types of nutritional production. E.g.

Ingredients in 100 grams-

Water 12

Carbohydrates 60

Power 1529 kJ

Non-vegetarian 6.1

Affection 0.6

Fiber 1.3

Sugar 0.12

*Rice Research Institute:

Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) is an organization that is constantly trying to innovate new rice in line with the growing food demand in Bangladesh. The company is headquartered at Joydebpur in Gazipur district, north of Dhaka. The institute has 9 regional centers across the country. The centers are located at Comilla, Habiganj, Sonagazi, Bhanga, Barisal, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Kushtia and Satkhira. So far, most of the improved varieties of rice have been discovered by BRRI scientists.

Paddy is the most valuable grain for Bangladeshi. Without it no one can eat rice ever. And the farmers are growing paddy in their field for all.😊
