Politics and religion can we separate it?

It is obvious that the two are interwoven and even the sharpest knife or sword can't divide it.

When Jesus was birthed and the prophesy concerning him he was seen as a political leader to deliver the Jews from the Roman empire but it became vivid that it was a mistake on their part to hold that assertion as he himself revealed to them that his government is not of this world but the heavenly kingdom

In other words some religions hold the believe that the religion should be a controlling force of government conquering territories and subduing nations

Can this be said of the purpose why religion was created

Nevertheless a philosopher once said religion is opium of the mass that people or masses follow sheepishly without necessary asking vital questions.

Many were made believe and hold the sacredness of religion
