In the late 1990's or maybe the early 2000's when I had to travel from North Carolina to Chicago often....I got bumped on a flight and while waiting I began to wonder.

Who is O'Hare, What is O'Hare...The name of the airport, where did it get it's name?

While I was there I was unable to discover who or what "O'Hare" is/was...I was probably lazy.

When I got home I discovered the source...

"Butch" O'Hare, Navy Pilot in WW2....So what makes him so Special?

Early in the Pacific Theater during World War Two, Adm. Halsey' fleet was trying to secure Port Moresby as a Navel base to keep Australia from falling to the Japanese.

Lieutenant Commander "Butch" O'Hare was attached to the Fleet.

While on a mission "Butch" realized his fuel had not been topped off and would not be able to complete the mission, He told his wing Commander, who then ordered him to return to the carrier.

While heading back he discovered the most frighting sight, 9 Japanese Bombers headed toward his fleet...They Will Sink the ships if they are not stopped.

All Squadrons were in flight and could not get back to the fleet in time..."Butch" O'Hare didn't flinch....He Attacked.

After shooting down the 5th of the 9 bombers he ran out of ammo. this did not deter "Butch", he still dove on the Bombers, trying to clip their wings, trying to clip their tail anything to stop them....

Well...it worked, they turned for home.

Low on fuel, out of ammo "Butch" O'Hare returned to the Carrier with his amazing tale...upon reviewing his gun camera they realized he had, indeed, saved the fleet.

"Butch" O'Hare in saving the fleet became the 1st Ace of WW2 and the 1st Navy Pilot to have ever won the Medal of Honor.

This is a very good reason to name a building after someone and a perfect reason to name an Airport. He's from the City.

......

I told you that to tell you this...

In the 1920's Al Capone Owned Chicago, he had a lot of the police and judges, and maybe All and the politicians on his payroll.

But the one thing that kept him out of jail was his Attorney, known as "Fast Eddie" or "Easy Eddie". "Fast Eddie" is the guy that kept the books for Al Capone.

This was so important to Mr. Capone that he provided "Fast Eddie" every item wealth could buy or provide, he gave him a house the size the a Chicago city block and paid for his "live-in" servants.

Eventually "Fast Eddie" got married and had a son, Edward.

Edward grew and when he was maybe 3 years old he asked his daddy..."What's that...?", "That is an airplane" was the reply....

From that moment on, Edward would not shut up about airplanes..."Fast Eddie" told his son he could do anything he wants when he grows up....knowing this was untrue.

When You're born into the mob, there's only 1 way out. It's a Life Sentence.

This Bothered "Fast Eddie", so much so that eventually he turned states evidence.

"Fast Eddie" gave the books to the Gov. allowing for the conviction of Al Capone for Tax Evasion.

Apprx. 2 years after the conviction, "Fast Eddie" was murdered on a Chicago Street. He died so his son could go on to live his dream and fly airplanes.

"Fast Eddie" did that so his Son Edward "Butch" O'Hare could grow up, and be the first Navy Pilot to have ever Won the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Your life is Your's, Live your dreams.

For Love is Truly Stronger than Death, and this story proves it.

Thank You.
