Splinterlands | Portal Spinner | Guess His Attack If You Can
Splinterlands | New Cards, New Abilities
The Chaos packs brought forth cards that had abilities hitherto unseen in Splinterlands. We could expect new abilities to come by, but something as good as the one we have with Portal Spinner is unexpected.
Speaking of Portal Spinner, it is one of the cards that have Scattershot ability. This is a new ability and one which was introduced through the Chaos packs. The card is a ranged attacker with an attack value of two. I love the scattershot ability as it helps break another ability of monsters – the taunt ability.
The taunt ability is one of the difficult ones to deal with. Any monster that taunts causes all enemy monsters to focus their attacks on it. This pins the opposition to attack only one monster while the friendly monsters can run amuck over the opposition. The only solution to win was to kill the taunt monster lest we end up being killed. This is where the Portal Spinner comes into play.
How? Let’s find out in a moment. But before that, how about getting to know Splinterlands first and then jumping on to the Portal Spinner? I guess you would agree. After all, that’s where you will find the Portal Spinner.
So, let’s go.
What Game is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. *The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.* By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.
To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.
Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs
And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling it for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too.

Portal Spinner | Scattershot Monster
We touched upon the taunt ability and how it attracts all attacks to itself. This is something the Portal Spinner neutralizes well. The monsters with the scattershot ability are not affected by the taunt ability. They can direct their attack on any monster at will. This allows the team opposing a taunt monster to attack a monster other than the one taunting. It is one of the greatest assets in most games.
With games without a taunt monster, the outcome is even better. Unlike the snipe, sneak, or opportunity, the scattershot ability does not direct its attack on just one monster. The cards with scattershot can attack any enemy monster, and with each round, the attacks could be on a different monster. So, that takes away the opposition team’s strategy to place strong monsters at the beginning or the end position. This makes the Portal Spinner and its scattershot ability quite lethal.
Now, let’s see this lethal ability in battle.
Face-to-Face With The Opponent | Ready for Battle!
I had chosen the Dragon Splinter while the opponent went with the Fire Splinter. My team is at the bottom of the screen while the opponent’s team is at the top. I do have a taunt monster and also the Portal Spinner. It is a team that has it all. There is one monster with opportunity, one with taunt, and one with scattershot.
I can’t wait to start the battle. 😊

The Battle Rages
By the end of round 2, the stage was set for my victory. The Portal Spinner was majestic in the attacks, and I could capture one screen where it takes out the opponent’s monster.
See the monster at the back of the opponent’s line? That’s the one that bore the brunt of the Portal Spinner. My taunt monster was still alive, allowing my other monsters to remain free to attack.
Soon after, it was game over!

GG | I Won!
I have to admit that my monsters were too strong for the opponent. All my monsters were still alive.
Interestingly, the Spinner dealt the last blow—what a way to end the battle. The hero of the battle finishes the fight. 😊
I won. Let’s celebrate!
That’s It | The Scattershot Ability is Quite Good!
As I mentioned before, the scattershot ability is one of my favorites. It is a good one to have in battle. The Portal Spinner is a great card to have that ability. I wouldn’t mind taking the Spinner just for its ranged attack value of 2. However, when the attack comes combined with the ability, the outcome is too good.
I hope you enjoyed the battle. I will be back soon with more. Till then, namaste!
