Splinterlands | New Rule

One of the rules that has been forever on Splinterlands is the mini-monster rule. The rule allows only monsters with four mana or lesser to be taken into the battle. So, even if we have a 100-mana cap for the battle, all we can take in is four mana monsters for each slot. Imagine how funny the mana cap contrasting the mini-monster rule would have been.

While the mini-monster rule was funny, and at times frustrating, it wasn’t the only one in the fray. The rule of five is another one which teases the players. Irrespective of the mana cap, players can take only five monsters or lesser to battle. This means that we cannot take six monsters as we would do normally.

Have to admit that the rule-of-five is still better than the mini-monster rule, as it does not restrict the maximum mana of each monster. That way, we can still take our heavy hitters with heavy mana value. How about we see one such battle? But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. *The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.* By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. Five Alive Rule | Sixth Shalt Not Pass!

The only-five-monster rule is one of the newest in the splinter arena and I love it. I have more wins under this rule than losses. There are variations to this rule like the only-three or the only-four rule too. The fun part is that the player is forced to limit his number of monsters in battle.

So, it could very well be a 100 mana battle but the player can only fill five positions with it. See, how it would be pushing the game strategy? At times we have to decide forfeiting the strongest monster for the best game strategy. There are innumerable strategies possible and that’s what makes this game and rule exciting.

The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows

A quick look at the rule, and let’s get on with the battle.

The battle allows 49 mana which is high considering the five-alive rule. So, we can definitely pack our heavyweights in this battle. Interestingly, the close-range rule is also in play. That rule would allow ranged attackers to attack from the first position.

With these rules, an interesting game plan is possible. Let’s get started with the fun.

The Face-Off Screen

Here is what the battlefield looked like. 😊

You can see my team at the bottom of the screen while the opponent is at the top. The opponent has taken Water Splinter while I have taken Dragon Splinter for the battle. Technically, since I have paired my team with Water Splinter, my opponent and I are fighting with the same splinter.

I have one taunt monster while only one ranged attacker. Also, I have really filled the five positions with heavy hitters. The opponent has focused more on melee and ranged attackers. The ranged attackers, of course, will be able to combat even in the first position.

It looked like an interesting battle was lined up.

We Battle Hard

By the middle of round 2, I appeared quite a force.

The opponent’s two monsters in the first and second position were done with and I still had all my monsters intact. What was apparent was that the opponent did not have much firepower. With each round, all his monsters will deliver an attack value of six. On the other hand, my monsters would deliver a combined attack of nineteen units.

That doesn’t sound good for the opponent.

And The Battle Races to Conclusion

By the middle of round three, it was game over.

The opponent’s last monster took a hit from my tank and it was done for. Surprisingly, the opponent did not manage to take down even one of my monsters. That was a crazy good attack.

Also, I could go all in with five monsters and still come out on top. Like I said, I hardly lose a five-alive rule!

A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result

It was an interesting battle and I would love to have many more of this kind. The five-alive rule is my lucky charm and I am usually on the winning side with it. The fact that this was a high mana battle also helped, as I could take some strong cards into the game.
