Splinterlands | Life Leech | Ancient Lich’s Health Goes To 35

0 12

Introduction

One of the best abilities, in my opinion, is the Life Leech ability in the Splinterlands game. Of course, there would be others for whom other abilities work better, but for me, the life-leech is the best in the business. How else would you explain, a monster with three or four health goes all the way to twenty and more during the battle? You’ve got to love that ability.

I plan to talk about that ability, and in doing so, we will look at one of the Death Splinter monsters. I am talking about the Alien Lich, and I have a kind of love for the card. I have more life-leech cards like the Zalran Efreet or Bila, but none come close to the Alien Lich.

Why only the Ancient Lich? Well, it comes with a magic attack much like Bila and Zalran, but the value is three. This means, even if there is a silence-monster in the opponent’s arsenal, the Lich can stand its own still. The only complaint is its mana value. It costs seven mana to take the Lich to battle. In that sense, the Efreet is cheaper.

Though I have to admit that despite the mana cost, the Lich is still a good companion even in low mana battles, and it is easy to see why. With not many silencing monsters in the low mana battles, the Lich can demolish the opposition even if it does not gather enough health. How could you not like that? 😊

Without wasting any more time, let’s head to the battlefield to see the Ancient Lich in action. But before that, we will just take about a few seconds to talk about Splinterlands. What is the point in talking about the Ancient Lich if readers cannot figure out where to find it? 😊 So, here we go.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Well, it is one of the earliest blockchain-based collectible games. Though I started playing the game relatively late, I should have had gotten going early in hindsight. Anyway, no need to despair. There are so many opportunities no matter when you start.

*Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn on the cards. It is one of the most generous games that I have seen where cards, potions, Dark Energy Crystals (DEC. Cryptocurrency) are given out every day to thousands of players for just playing and winning daily quests. And there are tournaments that you can play or guilds that you can join.*

*Just to give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands - read my story of getting cards worth $327 for buying few packs worth $20 only.*

Got Cards Worth $327 for $20

And this is just a small number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling it for as high as $6500. This means the game has interested buyers for your cards too. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace.

Now, if all that interests you and you want to try out the game, then I am leaving a link below for you to join.

Ancient Lich | Dangerous Adversary

I spoke about the life-leech ability of the Ancient Lich, but there is one rule in the game which accentuates this particular ability. I am sure most would have guessed that it is the health-equalizer rule. The health equalizer rule enhances the health of the Lich to a higher level, and from there, it gets to accumulate further life. That makes it an indestructible tank.

Does that mean that the life-leech ability does not work as much without the health-equalizer rule? It works still. However, if the opposition has a sneak, snipe, or opportunity monster, it could go for the Lich and finish it off even before it could start. With the health-equalizer rule, the Lich has some buffer to take such attacks. And if it can survive a couple of rounds of attack and still take down few monsters from the opponent’s lineup, then it has done its job.

So, there are more reasons to like the life-leech ability and the Ancient Lich card. Let’s hop on to a battle to check it out.

The Ancient Lich in Battle

Like I said before, it is the life-leech ability that we intend to test out more than the card.

Here is the rule that was in play. Since I mentioned the health-equalizer rule, what better than to test the life-leech ability during the rule. Also, the 28-mana cost gives enough and more room for the Ancient Lich and many more monsters. In fact, this was one awesome selection of monsters, which I will show in the next section. I did not plan for it, but it just happened.

I am sure you would love to see it too, so let’s get going.

-------------******-----------------

The Face-Off

The face-off screen was the most amusing one for me. I will explain why as we look at both the opponent and my monster lineup. The only common thing is that we both had chosen the Death Splinter.

The opponent’s lineup
Summoner: Zintar Mortalis | Ability – Reduces my melee monsters’ attack value by one
Monsters:
Position 1: Haunted Spirit | Has self-healing ability which when played along with the health-equalizer rule becomes as dangerous as the life-leech ability and the health-equalizer rule. In a way, it can neutralize the Ancient Lich’s advantage.
Position 2: Phantom Soldier | Magic attacker with flying ability. Strong monster.
Position 3: A magic attacker with an attack value of two. Strong monster.
Position 4: Undead Priest | A non-attack monster with weaken ability. So all my monsters will have one health lesser at the start.
Position 5: Haunted Spider | Ranged attacker with an attack value of two. Strong monster
Position 6: Twisted Jester | Strong ranged attacker with an attack value of two.

The fun part is that I have chosen monsters that effectively neutralize the opponent’s lineup. And all this was not premeditated.

My lineup
Summoner: Contessa L’ament | Perfect selection, in my opinion, as it reduces the two ranged attackers attack value in the opposition’s lineup
Monsters:
Position 1: Dark Ha’on | A taunt monster that will direct all the attacks to itself. No other monsters in my lineup will be affected till the Ha’on is alive.
Position 2: Furious Chicken | If the Ha’on falls, the Furious Chicken will hold the first position for some time. This would further shield the monsters behind.
Position 3: Death Elemental | Being a sneak magic attacker, it would attack any monster other than the first in the opponent’s lineup.
Position 4: Fallen Specter | Magic monster with flying ability. It should be good to attack the first monster in the opponent’s lineup.
Position 5: Ancient Lich | The champion of our lineup with three magic attacks. It is also the one with the life-leech ability.
Position 6: Undead Archer | Ranged attacker with the affliction ability. Now, it is incidental that I chose a monster with affliction, as it would stop the Haunted Spirit’s (first monster in the opponent’s lineup) self-healing. If that works, then I will win the game. 😊

So, you notice that unintentionally, I have got a team that neutralizes the opponent’s lineup even before the battle starts. From summoner to monsters, every one of them is the right choice.

The Battle Begins

Close to the end of round 1, my Ha’on has taken some beating, but we have not done badly either. Notice the skull on top of the Haunted Spirit? That means my Undead Archer had already attacked and has cast affliction on the Haunted one. That means it won’t self-heal anymore and will perish like the other normal monsters. Hurrahhhhh! 😊

And it worked. While my Ha’on was gone, so was the Haunted Spirit. That was good news since I still held the trump card – the Ancient Lich – and you can take a look at its health. It is already up to sixteen.

The Battle Races to Conclusion

This happened to be a long-drawn battle. We had already reached round nine, and there were three monsters standing on each side. But with one non-attack monster and two ranged attackers with reduced attacks, the opponent wasn’t looking good. On the contrary, the Ancient Lich alone was damn strong on my side. Health has shot up to twenty-seven by now.

And six more rounds later, the opponent was breathing his last. The Jester took the last attack from the Ancient Lich, and that was game over!

But look at the life-leech rocketing the Lich’s health up to thirty-five. That is incredible. The Lich alone could stand for another ten rounds. 😊

Life-Leech | Ancient Lich | Health-Equalizer

These three, the Ancient Lich, life-leech ability, and the health-equalizer rule, are a deadly combination in any battle. I think I will stick to it in most of the battles. Also, having the Undead Archer or equivalent is not a bad idea for self-healing monsters as we had stumbled upon.

I enjoyed the battle thoroughly and loved it. Not just for the Lich and its abilities but for the overall choice of summoner and monsters in the battle. It just played out so well. I hope you liked it as much as I did. 😊

That’s it from me for today. I will see you soon!
