Splinterlands | Legendary Summoners

One of the difficulties in a battle is also the summoners. The higher the summoner, the more difficult it is to beat one. This is not always the case, but more or less, a common summoner going against a legendary summoner will end up with the legendary summoner coming on top.

It is rare for a common summoner to beat a legendary one, and that is one of the reasons for this post. I defeated a legendary summoner. We are talking of Yodin Zaku, one of the most difficult ones to beat, especially, in the early days of splinterlands before the Chaos packs.

I am sure all will love to see the battle and with that, we will also witness Yodin closely. But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find Yodin.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. *The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.* By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling it for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too.

Yodin Zaku | One Who Blasts Away The Opposition

The thing with Legendary summoners is that they come with three abilities which makes every monster in the lineup stronger on three different abilities. If we compare that to a regular summoner, there is only one ability that is added to the lineup. This is one of the reasons why a regular summoner beating a legendary is rare.

While I bring it down only to the summoner’s abilities, let me clarify that a good game plan, selection of monsters, abilities, etc. go on to make a great battle. And in that mix, the summoner also plays a crucial role.

Well, then let’s look at the summoner in action.

The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows

As we look at the battle, it is also important to notice the rules at play. This particular battle had the poison rule and no-shield rule activated.

The rule meant that it would be prudent to go in with a self-healing monster. That’s one of the ways to tackle poison and hope that the monster does not suffer too many attacks.

Was that a good call? Let’s look at the lineup and we will know.

The Face-Off Screen

Here’s where I first noticed that I was going against Yodin. The player selected a good number of monsters for the 29-mana cap.

My team is in the upper half, while the opponent’s team is in the lower half. Thinking of the poison rule, I chose all monsters that are self-healing. But my summoner was a total miss looking at the opponent’s lineup. There is not a single melee attacker with the opponent, and therefore, my summoner’s thorns are of no consequence.

The opponent’s lineup is aligned with Yodin’s strength. Each monster would receive a health and ranged attack bump up, while each of the attacks would be a blast attack. Besides, three of the opponent’s monsters have the snipe ability and that means they will attack the monsters in the second position for a larger blast effect. ☹

What do you think?

We Battle Hard

We truly battle hard, but even before the end of the first round, my team looks vulnerable.

And the poison rule is yet to be applied. Things look bleak, except that a small possibility exists that the Cornealus with the least attack on it, may outlast the opponent.

And The Battle Hurries to Conclusion | I Got It In the Bag

Here’s an example of the power of the opponent’s summoner.

With just ranged attackers with snipe abilities, my Kron was eliminated despite it being a self-healing monster. But then, the poison rule was taking a bigger toll on the opponent’s lineup than mine.

I hadn’t expected that two of the monsters would survive till the end. And that was it, the opponent’s lineup folded.

I won!

A Hard-Fought Battle | I Won!

If not for the poison rule, there was no way that I wouldn’t have won. My gameplay was focused on the poison rule while the opponent bet on the blast attacks. My strategy worked out thankfully.

But this is a reminder that it is not just the summoner but a whole lot that comes into play in battle. Anyway, today was my day and my victory. I am happy to have taken on Yodin and ended up victorious.

I hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I enjoyed playing. Have fun! 😊
