Splinterlands | Armored Up | Strong Defence!
Splinterlands | Armor
One of the easiest ways to defend against melee and ranged attackers is to have armor deployed. While the melee and ranged attackers can still penetrate the armor after the first round of attacks, it, at least provides safety for one round. I always loved using armor. However, when Splinterlands introduced armor as a rule, I loved it more.
While the armor is useful against melee and ranged attackers, it hardly does much against magic attacks. The only exception is the use of Void armor, wherein the armor would stop even magic attacks. Nonetheless, the armor’s presence is almost always a point to consider because numerous permutations and combinations are possible around it.
We will see the armored battle in detail in a moment. But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.
What Game is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. *The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.* By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.
To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.
Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs
And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Armor | What Does It Do In Battle? | And What It Can’t
As already mentioned, magic is the only attack that can go through armor. However, if we use a monster with void armor, then the armor blocks magic attacks too. There are many ways armor can be used in battle while also be destroyed in battle (opponent’s armor).
Here are pointers to get it to your advantage.
Armor Pros
When using armor or playing under the armor rule, we need to have at least one armor repair unit. What this does is that the armor is repaired each round and therefore makes it difficult for the opponent to attack the unit. This is one of the better ways to play around the Armor rule.
Armor Cons
When the armor rule is in play, we can use summoners with piercing or monsters with piercing ability. What this does is, the attacker can pierce through the armor and hit the opponent’s monster even if the armor is in play. This works well.
The other recent ability that can be used is the shield/armor shatter ability. Use monsters or summoners (like Immortalis) to shatter the opponent’s shield in the first attack itself. What this will do is remove the armor completely irrespective of the number of armor initially present. I have found this quite effective.
To summarize, when entering a battle with armor rule, get one armor repair monster to help your lineup while getting a few monsters or a summoner with piercing or shattering ability.
The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows
A quick look at the rule, and let’s get on with the battle.
The battle was a 26-mana armor-up rule. So, all monsters got two armors at the start of the battle. The only Splinters allowed in this battle were Fire, Water, Earth, and Life. Well, I did have an ace up my sleeve for the battle. How about getting to see the battle?
Here we go.
The Face-Off Screen
Both the opponent and I chose the Earth Splinter.
My team is at the bottom of the screen while the opponent’s is at the top. The opponent’s summoner increased the attack value of magic attackers by one. Anticipating such a move, I carried the Mushroom Seer in my lineup. The Seer reduces all opponent’s magic monsters’ attack value by one. In other words, the Mushroom Seer neutralizes the opponent’s summoner.
My summoner allowed me to take one Gladius card, which is Quora Towershead in the battle, and the summoner also reduced all opponent monsters’ speed by one. This already seems to have worked in my favor.
We Battle Hard
By the middle of round 3, the opponent’s lineup had already shrunk.
My Quora couldn’t power up and strengthen because of the opponent’s monster with the dispel-ability. Every time, Quora powered up, the opponent’s monster would oppose her powering up. I didn’t have to mind it too much as I was winning. Or, at least, I appeared to be winning.
And The Battle Races to Conclusion
Near the end of round 6, the battle was done and dusted.
Quora could power up this time after the opponent’s monster with the dispel-ability perished. And from that point, Quora was epic. Anyway, I think the Mushroom Seer and my summoner did the trick for me.
I won! 😊
A Hard-Fought Battle | A Known Result
I like the combination of my summoner, Quora, and Mushroom Seer. More often than not, I win with that combination. The mana cap of twenty-six also allowed me to take these monsters into battle. It was a good one, especially with the armor rule in play.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the battle. Do take a look at the battle live in the link provided below. Enjoy!
