Someone once told me that it’s not what you want to be that makes you special, but it’s how God made you that shows your true colors and makes you unique. A lot of people in this world are not what they appear to be whether it’s trying to impress others or even trying to fit in. I use to be like a lot of people. All that I wanted was to fit in and to be like everyone else, however, I learned that trying to be like someone else won’t get you anywhere in life especially if they want you to act a certain way.
Some people are affected by the way others treat them. I believe that no matter how much you want to be someone you’re not, it’s better to be yourself. When you are yourself then other people respect you and love you for who you are. I used to be a girl who followed everyone. I didn’t know who I was or who I wanted to be. It was difficult and a struggle for me to overcome the fear of being judged for just being me. I didn’t appreciate what I had. When I use to hang out with a group of so called friends, I acted just like them. I was a follower and I thought that if I didn’t act like them I wouldn’t be accepted by them as “friends”.To be yourself means you must appreciate and love who you are no matter what. I think it’s wrong for those who want you to be who you are not. I struggled through that. I cared what people thought about me, but a wise friend told me that I shouldn’t care what other people think about me, but should be myself because that’s the best part about me. Being myself actually helps me to know who I am. Don’t do what other people want you to do. Everyone has a personality and can use it to his or her advantage. People that tell you to be someone you’re not are not considering what is best for you and only care about themselves. It’s easy to follow others, but often very difficult to say no.To me being yourself means that you have to love yourself and set aside your flaws. You need to know that God made you special and He loves you just the way you are even though you are not perfect. If you remember that God loves you then what other people say won’t matter because He made you special and unique, and all the blemishes make you, you.
