This century has so much women clamouring for liberation and equity which they gave a beautiful term known as feminism. There is nothing wrong with wanting equal rights but a lot of people do not think that the word "feminism" and the movement aligns and this is why it has become a very controversial topic with many women trying so hard to disassociate themselves from it and not be termed as feminists.
Discrimination exists, women have been marginalised but is feminism all about equality or should it be about equity? Chanters of "what a man can do a woman can do better" either do not understand what feminism is all about or just outrightly feel it's a permission to be rude, bashful and intolerant towards men. This is not what feminism means. Feminism is simply an advocacy for equal right on the basis of equality to sexes. Women simply just want equal rights and opportunities as men in different sectors of the economy. Women don't have to be like men physically for them to enjoy equal rights as men. All men do not have the same physical strength and energy, does it mean the weaker men are denied some rights just because they are weaker?
However, many women are going about it the wrong way. We forget that some factors play a role in the way men see women. Factors such as religion and culture and we need to patiently educate these men to unlearn some of the ways they view women. Don't forget, these men grew up in a society that esteem men higher than women. We can unattract the so much antagonism the word has attracted.
Nowadays men are also terming themselves "anti-feminists" asking what women have got to offer. These men argue that since women want equality then they must have their own money, propose to them, pay for their own dinner etc. They aren't interested in wooing a woman the traditional way and even some of them go as far as believing they can also deny their partner sex since the feminist women believe they don't need a man to be sexually satisfied.
Do you believe that men and women deserve equal right in every way? If no, why do you think they don't?
I liked your writing very much
