Judy Heumann: The woman who changed her view of the humiliation of the disabled

When she was 18 months old, Judy Heumann contracted polio. The disease caused a woman to die at the end of her life, so she was confined to a wheelchair.

But she did not recognize her disability as a challenge for her, she was one of the leaders fighting for the rights of the disabled in the United States.

She once sued the New York City Department of Education to achieve her goal of teaching. She asked the airline to let her fly unaccompanied. And in order to achieve her legal goal she rushed to work at the Federal Department of Construction in the United States.

She has served as an adviser, not just one, for two US presidents.

This year, when the Times published photos of the 100 most influential women heroes in the world, Judy was among them, along with Michelle Obama and Greta Thunberg.

Her determination to achieve her goal changed the name to - "Chingona", as her husband calls her in Spanish.

"I mean you have to be brave, you have to work hard," she said, laughing at her self-esteem and her stubbornness.
