Hmmm..... thank God, Nigeria marks sixty years old of liberty from British rule today. Today Nigerians are celebrating 60years of Independence day today....hurray..
What is independence day?
According to Wikipedia, Independence Day is an official national holiday in Nigeria, celebrated on the first of October. It marks Nigeria's proclamation of independence from British rule on 1 October 1960.
Every first of October of every year, Nigerians do come together to celebrate this awesome day. It's always a good story to tell. Thank God for life.
Let me quickly brief you about my country. The name “Nigeria” was named by Flora Shaw the wife of Lord Lugard ( A British Administrator) , a British Journalist in January 8,1897 and Nigeria was ruled by the British then. The name was taken from the New her river running through the country. On October first,1960 (1/10/1960) the story of Nigeria changes as they became free from slavery.
Have you heard of Anthony Enahoro? He was the one who initiated the motion which finally led to Nigerian independence in 1960. Alot of great heros has really helped to build Nigeria like Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, Lord Frederick Lord Lugard, Herbet Samuel Marcaulay the Father of Nigeria.
And so far Nigeria has become Africa's largest economy and the continent's biggest oil producer. We are so blessed in Nigeria with natural resources, green lands for farming, resort centers, tourist attractions, great museums, conducive environments, etc. Nigeria has three ethnic groups which are Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. Nigeria has 36 States.
I really love Nigeria culture of n terms of food, dressings, greetings, customs etc. You will actually love it when you visit Nigeria.
I could remember my last days at college. A day like today is always an awesome day. Do you know why?
A day like this, all students will go to the stadium to march as a sign of honor to Nigeria. My mum would have wash my school uniform and give it a good press with my neat socks. I always love this day because it's always an official National Holiday when you will meet other students from other schools. We will match passed the President and Governor's putting all our best.
As we celebrate today we celebrate today at 60 despite the Coronavirus pandemic, we still stand strong.
