We live in a very superstitious society. So, even when we hear the terrible stories of people losing their jobs, or women losing the bread winner of their households suddenly, then forced into relative pennilessness because they can no longer afford their rent and have to beg friends and family for money to pay the children's school fees, we think 'God Forbid'. Sometimes, though, bad things happen to good people. So instead of worrying without action, we need to plan for emergencies.
A smart someone doesn't wait for financial surprises; he/she systematically saves towards emergency fund because she knows that this is the foundation of her financial journey.
The cushion that acts as a financial safely net, so before you splurge make sure you have at least six to nine months of living expenses saved up for emergencies.
