We all know what a quicksand is. Its that thing we often see on movies where if you ever fell on it youll sink until youre totally submerged.

Quicksand is a mixture of fine sand, very fine micron-sized particles of clay, and water.

But why do you sink in quicksand. Quicksand is a Non-Newtonian fluid like oobleck(cornstarch and water combined). Just like oobleck, the faster the object moves the less likely it is to sink (the oobleck pretty much acts like a solid) but when that ibject stop it would start sinking(the oobleck would then act as some sort of liquid). That is why its hard to get outof quicksand and that is also the reason why it is advice not to move too much if you are on one.

Well in fact, quicksand's are not that deep actually. Most quicksand would only submerge almost half of your body. Most quicksand are usually just few inches deep.

Note: if you ever fell onto one do not panic. Immediately call for help if possible because something might happen to you if you are ever stuck onto one. And also if you're helping someone stuck dont just pull the with full force or you might injure them. Remember the faster the object moves the harder it is for that object to get out.
